Chicago WX
November 4, 1991 had a high of 27. Looking ahead to next Tuesday (18th), the record low max is 20. That's gonna be tough but probably won't be too far away. I guess I should have been more clear, those are the earliest first sub-30˚ max temps of the season. Left that "first" part out. IWXwx
I feel that IND is going to make the top 10 coldest Novembers list this year. Temps look to start moderating in about a week, but still not close to normal.

Should be a relatively big departure by then. Sorry, I overlooked that. Nah, you're good...it's my bad. I didn't put in the "first" part when I originally wrote the post. Chicago WX
IND dropped to 17˚ this morning. This is well ahead of schedule and one of the earliest first sub-20˚ temperatures of the season for Indianapolis. Last November made the list below, beating Nov 2014 by one day. And on the opposite side of things, January 30, 1932 is the record holder for the latest first occurrence. 11-02-1951 • 16˚ 11-04-1991 • 17˚ 11-04-1966 • 18˚ 11-04-1879 • 18˚ 11-05-1995 • 18˚ 11-07-1971 • 16˚ 11-08-1976 • 17˚ 11-10-1957 • 17˚ 11-10-1933 • 19˚ 11-11-1950 • 19˚ 11-11-1943 • 18˚ 11-12-1986 • 17˚ 11-12-1920 • 16˚ 11-12-1911 • 14˚ 11-12-1894 • 19˚ 11-13-2013 • 18˚ 11-13-1940 • 19˚ 11-14-2014 • 17˚ 11-14-1969 • 17˚ 11-14-1916 • 17˚ 11-14-1900 • 18˚ Longterm median date of the first sub-20˚ temperature: November 29 Longterm mean date of the first sub-20˚ temperature: November 28 Period of record: 1871-2014 Lowest minimum temperatures for November 14: 11˚ in 1986 16˚ in 1976 16˚ in 1940 17˚ in 2014 17˚ in 1969 17˚ in 1916
Chicago WX
SBN dipped down to 10˚ overnight/this morning. Close but no cigar for the daily record minimum temperature. November 15 lowest min temps for South Bend: 8˚ in 1940 10˚ in 2014 13˚ in 1905 14˚ in 1933 15˚ in 1916 LAF got down to 14˚ this morning (as of 7:00am)...which makes for the 2nd 15˚ or lower temp of the month. Most number of days with a 15˚ or lower min temp in November at LAF: 5 days in 1976 and 1991 4 days in 1964 3 days in 1986 and 2013 2 days in 1970, 1977, 1984, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, and 2014
IWXwx
LAF should be able to tack on two more 15° or lower min temps this week (Monday and Tuesday nights) to tie with '64. Too bad that there probably won't be snow cover to aid in drops or Wednesday night could tie with '76 and '91. Pretty impressive cold temps with no snow. Chicago WX
November snowfall events of 1.0"+ for Indianapolis since 1884. In total, there have been 52 of them. On average, about 1 every 2.5 years. But, the last one was back in 1997. Long overdue I guess.
Hoosier
Obviously there's missing data issues when dealing with LAF but checking November records, it looks like there's only been 2 November days with a high in the teens in the past 50 years...November 21, 1964 and November 29, 1976. For Tuesday, 00z MET has 20 and the raw NAM 2m temps have been suggesting upper teens. Looks like we'll have a little bit of snowcover and if we can keep enough clouds around, I think there's a shot to pull it off.

Chicago WX
As cold as this month has been, yet none of the reporting stations will catch 1951. That year had to have been brutal! For Fort Wayne, November 1976 is the month to beat...though 1951 wasn't far behind. 1) 33.5˚ in 1976 2) 33.7˚ in 1951 3) 34.0˚ in 1996 4) 34.2˚ in 1967 5) 34.7˚ in 1959 But, November 1880 is far and away the coldest. Alas, only Indianapolis has official records that go that far back. That one is probably pretty unbreakable. 1) 31.1˚ in 1880 2) 34.6˚ in 1976 3) 35.5˚ in 1959 3) 35.5˚ in 1872 5) 35.6˚ in 1951
IWXwx
Ah, okay. I misread the post. It was for only the first 20 days of November. '51 must have had quite a warm-up the last 10 days, leading the league at every major reporting station, then getting beat out.
