Hoosier
Temps have shot up in MKE the last two days for whatever reason (perhaps the recent dry weather) compared to Chicago. Up to 69F already vs 62F at ORD. Strange. ORD is running a good 3-5 degrees cooler than the other major reporting sites around there.

daddylonglegs
One thing i've noticed the past few months, at least locally, is the mornings being cloudy/overcast/foggy ...it seems like every morning here starts off that way. Then turning clear by 10am-noon ... NAEFS shows more normal conditions as we head into the Oct... Looks like one more great day (around 70F) before the heat comes on for this weekend. I think by Fri/Sat/Sun its going to be edging towards being too hot, but at least the nights are long and allow temps to fall.
Geos
Had some ground fog this morning. Low of 46°, but already above 60°. Average highs start falling pretty quick now. ~
daddylonglegs
Rain over here...very light... cool day, but nice. Leaves really starting to show around here...noticed a vibrant orange (maple?) while driving this morning. Should be a heck of a color display in another 2 weeks or so. I see Brett A over on Accu saying that the first few weeks of Oct should stay mild/warm around these parts... Oct torch in the cards???
weatherbo
nice and warm today in the upper 60's right now. color show pretty much in full display... I'd say peak in 5 days locally. liking the idea of a warm start to October.
michsnowfreak
Fall color is rapidly coloring up the landscape more and more each day. Im wondering if peak may be a bit early this year. Early indications are it will be a vibrant season too! First 3 pics are early Fall sunset over Detroit (from upper deck concourse at Comerica Park) on Sept 23rd, last pic is a red/yellow tree Sept 24th. Geos
Color is emerging everywhere around here now. Thinking peak color might be a bit early as well. Onshore flow kept the high at 69° for today. Had quite the variety of high and mid level clouds towards the end of the day across the sky.

Gilbertfly
Got a little sprinkle down here in the brook...the surviving ash, the maple, and the locust trees are getting more and more color each day...looks like continued great weather. Windows open during the day and one or 2 open at night...no heat or ac for awhile here...just what the budget needed

daddylonglegs
Apples getting hit by lack of sunshine in Michigan: An analysis of the insolation, or incoming light from the sun, reveals that 2014 has the lowest level of accumulated sunlight, measured from June 1 to Sept. 22, 2014, in the 18 years the automated weather system has been acquiring data (see graphs at end of article). This year was also a low growing degree day (GDD) accumulation year, lower than any year except 2009 in the time period examined. Interestingly, the maximum amount of light reaching the fruit tree canopy for a given season seems to be declining over the last 18 years. That means the brightest day for 2014 was approximately 10 percent less bright than the late 90s. Finally, the relative amount of light for 2014 is about 12 percent less than the average for the last 18 years. Taken together, the data suggests that this was a tough year for fruit trees to accumulate photosynthate; it was cool and cloudy. The tree must make decisions about how to allocate the carbon it takes up, so as some of it is put away for next year, there is less to spare for the fruit, leading to low sugar levels. It may well be that these low sugar levels are also slowing development of the fruit as measured by our low ethylene levels. http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/apple_maturity_in_2014_is_slower_than_expected Sounds like big colored apples with lots of water, but not much sugar...
