Cheeznado
My two sources, the Montreal one and the PSU e-wall have not had the UKMET available for quite some time now. Have they restricted access recently?
bdgwx
Oh, you're right. Not saying access in being restricted in this case, but generally speaking I just don't get restricting access to scientific data like that. Why don't the other governments follow the US's lead on open access for all?
Jim Marusak
some governments just don't want to pay to have those servers up for public use. others don't trust that the data will be used by the properly trained folks (EC's prohibition against the public accessing anything except reflectivity and some limited base velocity data instead of the full stream of doppler products, which is quite similar to what are on 88d's, except at 5cm wavelentgth, not 10 like ours) but by lots of non-properly trained ones. and others, like the ECMWF, don't get as much for government grants for their operations like they should, and need to pay-wall the high-res data to pay for the extremely high-end supercomputers that run their models (last I saw like top 10 in computing power in the world), therefore; copyright that data so they can control its use to paying customers only. heck, some governments are having trouble paying mets their worth and are losing them to other countries (recent resignations of top forecasters at PAGASA for example). but there's not as much cash for atmospheric sciences as there should be. and it's all just trying to figure out the right balance of access to data and how to pay for producing it that may not be solved for a while to everyone's satisfaction. ohleary
Could be a coincidence but in early June, the UKMet discontinued dissemination of 1.25 degree res data over the SBN/NOAAPort. If that was their source for it, that would explain it.
jconsor
Two other UKMET sources: http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/ukmo2.php?carte=1021&ech=6&nh=1&archive=0 (Most of N. Hemis, but doesn't quite reach to Caribbean) http://ruc.noaa.gov/hfip/tcgen/
Derecho!
That french link hasn't updated since June. Anyway, you can get the UKMET tropical cyclone text product here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/data/tropicalcyclone/wtnt80.txt They have a new mapping product with forecast tracks but only for designated systems: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/storm-tracker/#?tab=map

yoda
I use this one -- http://meteocentre.com/models/models.php?lang=en&map=na&mod=ukmet That still seems to be working
Chinook
Still searching for some useable UKMET links? The College of Dupage web site says that the UKMET has been removed from NOAAPORT, or something like that. That explains why the UKMET has been taken off some web sites. Meteocentre seems to have sporadic missing images for the UKMET. http://www.wxcaster.com/conus_0012_foreign_models.htm http://ruc.noaa.gov/hfip/tcgen/ (this last one was mentioned a few posts ago)
