RedSky
GGEM has snow to ice to rain next week but I would certainly take my chances at this range with this type of setup: Afraid this is another time machine snow event- models lost it for sun-mon

Harbourton
As someone else mentioned - I hope this isn't the highlight of winter. Clipper was about as exciting as watching paint dry around here.
Ralph Wiggum
Euro is also trying to spin up a coastal early next week. Temps marginal but arctic pool of cold air just to our north. Too early to discuss r/s anyway....lets get the idea of a storm down first.
Harbourton
On the first evening of the real winter, I think of Robert Frost's poem. Hope it doesn't matter to inject this. Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

Feels very much like winter (and January) out there...going to be a cold few days ahead. Really nice to have snow on the ground.
Ralph Wiggum
Next week's former threat is quickly becoming a Mid-Atlantic and Southeast threat given the quick pattern. Still plenty of time but going to be next to impossible to get a coastal. Possibly on the overunning but not as confident in this as I was yesterday and earlier today. KamuSnow
15F here already - don't know if it will level off or if it's the snow helping....colder than I expected for this early in the evening.
RedSky
Need to vent - Had to make a trip to Horsham this evening and left the house at 4pm. 309 bypass was not salted down Perkasie mountain section through Souderton to Hatfield, wasn't salted to Chalfont. Were we not salting at friggin rush hour because it was just a clipper Driving home at 8pm the road was in fact treated finally.

Wow..,Thanks so much for this....That was my moms favorite poem, she died 5 years ago today and loved snow more than even I!! Surely the reason, in my mind, that i had this snow gift today. A few years back I wrote "Birches" on a couple pieces of White Birch bark from my wife's childhood NH residence and had it framed as an anniversary present for her.Just got home, we finished with 2.3" Currently 13f. Question for mets: why is it foggy?!?
wederwarrior
I wrote "Birches" on a couple pieces of White Birch bark Question for mets: why is it foggy?!? First off that's a really awesome idea And I thought the same thing... Maybe inversion layer with smoke from chimneys? Although I saw "steam" coming off of treated roads while temp was in the teens... Not sure what would cause it

Although I saw "steam" coming off of treated roads while temp was in the teens... Not sure what would cause it I don't know either, but my first guess would be something to do with latent ground heat vs the suddenly very cold temps. It got down to 10F here earlier, up to 14F now with clouds overhead. Almost made it to single digits!
KamuSnow
A year ago at this time we were in the midst of dropping from a pre-frontal passage high of 60F (at PHL) on Jan. 6th, down to a midnight low of 13F (which was also the high for the 7th), and eventually to 4F during the morning of the 7th. Should be interesting to see how low we can get Thursday morning with the added element of snow on the ground. Last year I believe the cold air came south into the Midwest and then east. Haven't looked but is the path more direct this time? The source air may not be as cold, don't know this either. After the way the temperature dropped off last evening I'm curious about this even colder air coming in. Probably be some snow blowing around today with the winds expected. Maybe it won't be as impressive when/if it reaches us but I think some will make it down. Sometimes when a cold blast moves through you get a mini blizzard for 10-15 min but enough to put down a solid coating. Just have to see if it falls apart or not. 22.4F

KamuSnow
Had a few light flurries here recently, hoping for some of that heavier action later :-) ...22F outside. Saw this in the AFD from Mt. Holly last night and thought "that would be interesting"...lo and behold it seems possible. Lots of streamers headed this way from all over... IT SHOULD BE NOTED SOME OF THE MODELS ARE SHOWING A LAKE HURONLAKE EFFECT STREAMER GETTING INTO THE SOUTHWESTERN PART OF OURCWA. IF CORRECT THIS COULD AFFECT OUR DELMARVA ZONES. eta - now we know which lake is "our" lake for lake effect snows, lol.
