I think the righting was on the wall when the Nov QBO came in at -23.65 and continues to go deeply negative at 30mb. Tough to get a stout -NAO winter with a ripping -QBO in the fall months leading into December. Obviously too early to cancel winter but this surely was a warning sign if we bust.

Did you have as lousy a fall as I had? One striper from the surf....thats it. Same story from most of my buddies. Had a great spring from the surf, just not fall. Wondering if you made out better on the water?

Yes the concensus here is that it was a bad season for stripers.  The spring run has been more reliable than the fall in recent years.  It seems that the fish bypass the cape in the fall as water temps are high then crash in Dec. I really didn't have time to get out anyway.  Been hunting tho.  Nice weather for that.

Yeah, never had much luck from North Wildwood South to Cape May in the fall. During the mullet run it's all the blues you could want, but mainly the resident 24-28" bass around. Farther North you go in the fall, the better your chances. Like I said, in the spring down in Cape May it was literally routine: wait for low tide, hook a bunker chunk, wade out 50 yards, cast, wait 15 minutes, reel in keeper striper (ranged anywhere from 32"-48"). One of the best springs ever actually. They are talking about changing the regs next year to either 1 fish at 28"+ and a slot at 20-26" or just one fish at 28"+.

Now I really wish the weakies would come back. I know the spots where you can catch all the spikes you want, but those big tiderunners are a thing of the past.

The clouds have certainly helped this month average on the + side of normal so far... highs have been close to normal, maybe slightly above, but lows have been several degrees above average.

For the month through yesterday(21st) my obs. do support Ray's statement. Avg. max. of 47.3° is +0.5° while avg. min. of 34.5° is +2.6°, even though the last two mornings both had min.'s of 23°. Only got that cold because of no wind(as noted in other posts) and the sky did clear at night. As Bluescat1 touched on still been easy on the gas bill. As of 11am is is, of course, CLOUDY! Yuk!

I'd say we had an ok year.  We had one slob early on in the bay followed by a skunk.  Then we switched to trolling out front and did well on 2 trips.  The last trip out front last week we got skunked, although the fish were there and some bait I think they just had lockjaw.  It was right before and after that Nor'easter a few weeks back and water temp dropped 3-4 degrees in the ocean after the storm.  I had heard reports that the main body of fish moved south and were off DE now.

We didn't really fish the spring on the water.  I think that fishing is hit or miss sometimes and I don't like to target them during spawning/migration up the bay.  Sounds like you did well in the surf.

Kinda surprised Ray didn't say "Fish Thread"!

12/29-1/5 needs to be watched rather closely. I see the potential for 2 wintry events during that time frame based on LP setting up in a quasi 50/50 position with an attached cold front trailing down to the GOM where LP wave develops on stalled out front and heads ENE. This pattern essentially repeats for both systems. Looks like good oveunning and then maybe a coastal.
