Damage In Tolland
Sorry to hear about your family issues - hope everything works out. Where are people mowing their lawns in sweatshirts with 70 degree weather? Everyone I see is in shorts and a t-shirt. On Friday I saw 3-4 people around town mowing in hooded sweatshirts or jackets and shorts. Low 60's and cloudy..with wind chills in the 50;s
Brian5671
Amazing year here. Only one 90 degree day in over a year. One last year's torrid July broke, that's been it. We hit 82 yesterday here and it felt like an inferno. Hope this pattern goes into the winter versus flipping on Nov 15th or something like that. If my neighbor's pool wasn't heated, we've have probably gone in less than 3 times this summer.
HoarfrostHubb
I have been walking the dog wearing a sweatshirt. Partly for the cool temps (50.4F this morning) but mostly for deer flies. They seem to be just about done though Horrible year for deer flies here

CoastalWx
Random question, but anyone else killing a lot of spiders? I feel like this is last September when it cooled off and spiders were trying to come inside. Only it's a month early.

Well either way...seems like some are trying to enter the house as is typical when weather cools off in the Fall. Another night in the 50s...hopefully Kevin has a sweatshirt. alex
Took a drive up Bear Notch Rd onto the Kancamangus yesterday, and there is a definite change going on above about 2000 ft. Not sure how unusual it is though, it's my first year there... Man are the leaves changing early. This is insane
CoastalWx
I still haven't noticed anything unusual regarding leaves in both inland and cstl areas. Seems like typical stressed trees that have yellows etc showing.
CapturedNature
My observations are that the usual suspects are starting to change but that's nothing unusual in mid-August. Parts of NNE are about 5 weeks from peak and we are about 8 weeks in SNE so plenty of time. I think the September like weather (70s/50s) are just making people think that it's later than it is. Considering that we started late, it's been a short window!

Seems like typical stressed trees that have yellows etc showing.Youve got to get in and up. Away from the CP from Weymouth to Andover. I usually poo poo all the early leaf changing posts , but this year it's legit all over this area from Union out in to Ashford I've noticed it. Not so much in the valley

weathafella
Why would the leaves change in elevated northeast CT and then not for another 250 miles north?
Damage In Tolland
Don't know, but not making it up. It's not massive color but it's above normal. No biggie. Move on
ORH_wxman
I haven't noticed anything unusual driving around near ORH. It's hard to get leaves to change color early...it's possible that a few could try and stress their way into some early color if you have a lack of water....so perhaps the drought-ridden wastelands of NE CT have succumbed to early stress from no water. For good foliage, you want sufficient rainfall in the summer months, and then lots of sunny/dry days in autumn with chillier nights (but not hard freezes). ORH_wxman
A lot of busted calls for a warmer end of August-looks pretty cool through next week at least It gets pretty hot to our west and southwest, but that rex block in eastern Canada just closes off the access for it to get into New England. Might be feeling like autumn here for several days out of the next 7-9 while it is mid-summer wx in the OH Valley.

ORH_wxman
I didn't say just Tolland. Will lives in Natick and is in Dubai now I'm not visiting Dubai until this weekend/next week. But there has been nothing unusual about the leaves both in interior E MA and over to ORH hills where I frequent. There are two other posters in NE CT who have already noted in this thread that they haven't noticed anything abnormal for mid-August.
