In all honesty, if you like pleasant wx in the 70s and 80s...this summer has been ideal with the positive departures occurring early before the climo gets really warm...and then the negative departures during most of the warmest stretches of climo which keeps us in that pleasant 70s/80s range.

Today is obviously really chilly, but that has been the exception...we haven't had a bunch of -13 deperatures...its been like -3s to -6s sprinkled around +1s and +2s since 7/15.

Heat after August 15 is like snow after February 15 to me... Meh, take it or leave it.

Honestly though ... mixed emotions on heat. In the one respect, from a purely scientific angle I am curious about heat wave synoptics. They are interesting to watch evolve, from slowly gathering teleconnector support, to then showing up in operational runs .. then tracking individual EML/ Sonoran release plumes.  Also timing is big issue there.  You can get node of +23C in and thru the area prior to 8am, and then it settles back to +19C at 2pm when you're maxing your BL depth and it's the difference between 103F and something just miserable at 97 or so. I mean there's a lot of moving parts with that.

What I hate is the heat its self.  I don't think there really is much to be physically gained/enjoyed by anything over 85F ...really.  And even that is annoying if the DPs are up there.

Counter to all this, I'm not really interesting much in nor'easter synoptics anymore post the ides of Feb, and mostly definitely lose interest post the Ides of March.  That said, April 1997 was bar none one fantastic journey of Jesus H Christ!

I guess in the end I just like interesting weather, regardless.  I just happen to think of May-July and tors, and July early Aug as heat, and Sep as hurricanes, and October as ...actually, October is pretty stupid like April for me. Things don't always work out according to plan, tho, do they.  Like Sandy in October, or the snow in April ..and October recently.  So even the two butt weemin' waste of time months of the year can at times produce.   ;)

That all said ... summer ain't over by a while... In fact, some analogs moving forward have flippy dippy times in September, and right now there is (speak of the devil) some emerging teleconnector support.

Also, NCEP mentions a new L/W arrival in to the western U.S., which would mean a flip in the PNAP sign (NAO rising lends a significant hand).  If there is any SW/W heat built up at that time we end up in a release deal.

We had above normal summers. Now we get one near normal and it's cold all the sudden. You are looking for stuff like last July which wasn't that the hottest on record at BDL?

No that was just a dream come true.

Just some normal heat and humidity that you can sit back, relax, be warm and enjoy some beers over while you listen to this as you watch the girls go by

I doubt anyone is having any parties like the one in this video at the end in this weather

I'm not gonna lie, it almost feels like Columbus Day lol. I kind of like it. It's just a fleeting taste so not like it is here to stay.

Yeah it's a true chill for mid-August. When it's in the 50s prior to 7pm on this date, you'd almost think it was early October right now. Some upslope sprinkles and small droplet sheet mist for a time this afternoon adds to the fall feel.

i feel like we get these semantics arguments once a week at least lol. My take is as follows. You live in New England, you have a nice mix of all four distinct seasons. If you are looking for HHH weather all summer, move to southern florida. If you expect brutal cold and 100 inches of snow at least every year, build a shack on top of a mountain somewhere.

This summer has been about as close to average as you are going to get overall. We dont live in a place where you should expect 90+ 15-20 times a month during the summer. In winter, very few posters here average over 100 inches of snow or even close to it, so generally people may have unrealistic expectations for what winter should bring, along with summer.

IMO this is one of the best places in the world to live if you like weather in general. Four distinct seasons, with a chance at just about any kind of weather mother nature has to offer.

And how is this not beach weather? i went swimming in 50 degree ocean water in northern maine last week with temperatures in the upper 60's. This is pefect beach weather. who wants to be baking on a beach in 90 degree heat? If this is not beach weather for you, you may be better off in Florida somewhere

Yea...well put.

If you would perhaps give in and join FB and Twitter and step into the 21st century .. You'd see there's more opinions than the 4 balding, bespectacled men wearing wrinkled dockers and brown shoes with black soles , and cloth golf shirts with varied checkered square patterns from Sears talking around the water cooler. The general public hated today

LOL...I have more technological savvy than you could imagine...I work in IT which is why I stay away from sites like that.  If you consider those sites cutting edge, you don't what you're talking about.  I talked to several people from different walks of life today specifically about the weather and no one had an issue with it.  Like I said, people that have a problem with will complain but those that don't are quiet.

well the message today has been people are saying it's perfect for summertime activities such as swimming. Why do I need a shrink because I want it hot and humid in summer when it s supposed to be?

Because you are lovably whacked. And a cool day but a beauty of a summer weekend coming.

This weather reminds us all of football, cider, octoberfest beer, and leaves changing....what a great little reminder that summer is coming to an end.

We'll get warm again, so don't worry...but it's a sign that the peak is past us.

This is basically my favorite 3-4 month stretch of the year. For everything you mentioned above, plus things like fall golf.

Plus this week has been awesome sleeping weather for midnight shifts.
