TauntonBlizzard2013
i feel like we get these semantics arguments once a week at least lol. My take is as follows. You live in New England, you have a nice mix of all four distinct seasons. If you are looking for HHH weather all summer, move to southern florida. If you expect brutal cold and 100 inches of snow at least every year, build a shack on top of a mountain somewhere. This summer has been about as close to average as you are going to get overall. We dont live in a place where you should expect 90+ 15-20 times a month during the summer. In winter, very few posters here average over 100 inches of snow or even close to it, so generally people may have unrealistic expectations for what winter should bring, along with summer. IMO this is one of the best places in the world to live if you like weather in general. Four distinct seasons, with a chance at just about any kind of weather mother nature has to offer. And how is this not beach weather? i went swimming in 50 degree ocean water in northern maine last week with temperatures in the upper 60's. This is pefect beach weather. who wants to be baking on a beach in 90 degree heat? If this is not beach weather for you, you may be better off in Florida somewhere

Now that was a cold summer.

snowman21
None at Hartford in 1920 yet that year doesn't crack the list at the other sites. I call BS on that one. There's no missing data at BDL from 6/1/1920-9/1/1920, though it doesn't make sense because BOS, ORH, and PVD all have a few 90+ days in that time span. I do recall there being a station location change in 1920 which maybe has something to do with it. The original early BDL data supposedly doesn't exist anywhere except on the back of napkins at the NWS.
ORH_wxman
None at Hartford in 1920 yet that year doesn't crack the list at the other sites. I call BS on that one. 1992 is a weird one too...there was a heat wave at PVD/BDL in late May 1992, but BOS didnt hit 90F any of those days probably because of Logan Airport's proximity to the water that early in the season. So BOS puts up a goose egg. PVD only hit 90F one more time that summer...I think right on the dot. BDL managed 3 or 4 more 90F readings...but I think they were also right on the dot 90F. ORH squeaked out a 90F on May 22, 1992...so despite how frigid that summer was, it doesn't make its lengthy list of years with zero 90F days. Now that was a cold summer. I was looking at that myself...I'm not sure what my max was but I saw the record low max was in 1992...that was a summer I remember and enjoyed well. It looks like we had a pretty decent warm spell at the end of August so even in a summer like that we had warm spells both early and later. I'm just looking through all the moves that NCDC lists, and it's all over the place during those early years. Several of the entries give the ever so descriptive "Hartford," and there are others showing the Hartford Courant, Brainard Field, Rentschler as you mentioned. There are 111 station history entries in the Hartford area which seems kind of like a lot, but that likely covers multiple distinct stations as opposed to just one station moving around. People are pissed off and irate..AWT People are generally more willing to complain about something than give positive feedback. I talk to people all the time and I haven't heard anyone complain about this summer. If anything, people have been talking about awesome it's been without much heat and humidity. If you talk to people outside of the "online" world, you might hear a different story.

I talk to people all the time and I haven't heard anyone complain about this summer. If anything, people have been talking about awesome it's been without much heat and humidity. If you talk to people outside of the "online" world, you might hear a different story. There is definitely some truth to this. Even on this forum...we're all guilty of it to an extent, but we tend to complain more than we enjoy the wx. We complain about missing the snow jackpot, or complain that the GFS said we'd get 12" on the 18z run and now we're only getting 8"...or that we had a few anomalously chilly days in the heart of summer in an otherwise pleasant near-normal summer. Or that we didn't get 3 feet of snow in March after we got 90" the rest of the season in 2010-2011....or that 2012-2013 was snowy, but it wasn't cold enough for us to enjoy it as "true winter"....or that 2013-2014 was cold and snowy...but the torches in January ruined it....well, you get the point, lol. That is stuff that people have complained about all within the last few years...and that's just the tip of the iceberg....you'd think we suffer from constant terrible wx sometimes. CoastalWx
Not to mention the energy savings. Nat gas is way down and could stay that way for awhile. No electricity demand equals smaller nat gas demand for those power plants using nat gas, which are many.
