michsnowfreak
Love xmacis because it makes looking up data so fast and easy. The trends here in Detroit for summer heat over the years is pretty simple. By far the hottest time period was the 1930s-1950s, and the coolest was the late 19th century. Since 1960, it has been fairly consistent, though there has been a dropoff in hot days since 2000. Sure, there were some torrid hot summers (2010-2012) but the number of years with less days in the 90s has been outpacing the years with above. In fact, though i think Detroit hits 90F Tuesday, if we dont, it will probably be the 4th July since 2000 (and 3rd since 2008) to not hit 90F. Before 2000, the previous 4 Julys to not hit 90F spanned 85 years. Looking at the average number of annual 90F days broken down by decade at various midwest sites...while each city tended to have its own trends, the general consensus is more or less that the 1930s-1950s were the hottest, and the 2000s saw a decline in heat for most. I didnt include the 2010s because of the small sample size, but its pretty cut and dried just about everywhere. 2010, 2011, and 2012 above normal...2013 and 2014 below normal.
