Hoosier
Very photogenic tornado. I remember watching the supercell develop in northwestern IL and then ride southeast though I believe it was actually a second supercell farther west that dropped the violent tornado. I always associate this day with 8/28/1990...the Plainfield tornado day. Both are examples of out of season violent tornadoes and both had similar instability to work with. SchaumburgStormer
Watched this one when I was in college in Peoria, was working the ambulance that day. Absolutely incredible.
Hoosier
FYI, this tornado touchdown location is the 2nd farthest south for an F4/F5 tornado in the month of July, only beat out by the July 9, 1980 F4 that struck the Rushville, IN area.
Buckeye05
This picture has always impressed the hell out of me. The Roanoke tornado shredded and scattered metal farm machinery like it was made of cardboard.
