Chitown Storm
Yeah I now see that. Lightning to my NW really increasing here in the last 5 min. Base velocity still looks respectable.

Castaway
Hmm stronger confidence feeling now. Increased lightning action outside and new development is popping up on radar. Some mean rumbling
Hoosier
I'm not sure if it'll be a detriment but that growing area of rain out ahead of the north central IL complex probably can't help.
DaveNay
Well that line that was in NW IL certainly crapped the bed as it crossed I-39. Right around the time the watch was issued. Very dark to the north of me...I am wondering if the power is out in DeKalb. Wife noticed a sudden change in the lights on the horizon as we were watching the news. Geos
ENW just had a wind gust of 50 mph from the NNE! Some gusts probably around 35 mph or so with +RN.
cyclone77
Fun little chase today considering it's mid-July. No tornadoes, but decent structure and a brief funnel. Initially targeted Marshalltown Iowa after the HRRR insisted on something blowing up near that area with the morning runs. Ended up stopping around Toledo/Tama Iowa and watched things for awhile. Finally things started to pop, but off to the southeast of where I was. As I approached the cell west of Iowa City it developed a nice couplet, and then a decent hook on radar. I followed the meso for quite some time near I-80 west of Iowa city, staying just inside the hook between the hook rain and the meso. The thing really cranked at times, but it refused to put down a 'nader. Followed the storm east of Iowa City, and it finally threw out a brief funnel between Lone Tree and West Liberty. After that the storm became fairly messy, and called it a day. Learned a few lessons on what not to do with the new camera, but overall the pics turned out okay. Met up with some other local chasers which was cool.

Geos
Great pictures Cyclone! First and second to last are my favorite ones. Don't know if anyone caught this from last night... Hoosier
Kenosha was ruled straight line wind damage While radar indicated rotational signatures aloft, the storm survey team found no evidence of damage caused by rotational winds at the surface. It was concluded that all the damage was caused by straight-line winds, ranging between 80 and 100 mph.

Powerball
Tomorrow could be a sneaky day for severe weather. If enough CAPE develops, we could have one of those fast moving, low-topped convective squall lines develop, bringing a damaging wind threat tomorrow afternoon/evening. The latest NAM and the GEM in particular hint at this.

magoos0728
Kenosha was ruled straight line wind damage It's so hard to believe-the damage follows such a path over a pretty good distance. My wife and I -sister as well because she lives about a block away-were upset that not even a watch was issued. Someone dropped the ball BIG time.
