Geos
This event is definitely noteworthy for mid summer. 850mb temperatures coming across the border are impressive.
mjwise
Those are some pretty steep/quick height falls at 850mb. DTW goes from 15C to 6-7C in the span of 24 hours. Great synoptic action for mid-July. I know someone going taking a camping/beach vacation up near Green Bay next week. I'm jealous!

michsnowfreak
Record cold max for July 15 at Detroit is 60F set in 1945, which is easily the coldest high temp on record for Detroit for any day in July. (a bit of local irony, in that it is SMACK dab, to the day, in the middle of the most torrid 30-year stretch of heat Detroit has ever seen). So that looks out of reach. However on the 16th, the record low max is only 70F in 1896, so there is a shot at that. Record low on the 15th is 50F in 1971 and on the 16th is 49F in 1975. Not sure if Detroit will even set a record or not, actually leaning towards JUST missing, but regardless, this already pleasant summer is about to get a taste of Autumn.
