Jesus ... wtf is that all about. You guy's so despise summer your languishing the dulling of the green, as though to hasten its departure.

Good luck with that.

Yeah, the greens may dull, and the autumn foliage will inevitably take its place. Some years that's a week or so sooner, or later. Right now on July 27, however, we have ~2.5 months to wait for that too happen. Deal with it.

You shouldn't have such emotional attachment to this John. It's not good for you.

I love summer but I also tell it like it is.

I don't know if you are kidding here or not, Jerry, but I'll go ahead and assume you are...

But no -- the languishing thing is just as real as the season tis denied ;)

Is meteopsychology a major? ;)

LOL,

That's interesting though, actually.   Well, in law enforcement there are lots of sociological studies about the affects of short term extreme events on modulating anti-social behavior.  It's all out there... Crime spikes during heat waves, etc etc.

The bottom line, yeah ...weather affects peoples moods, for some that much more true than for others;  but it's how people deal with it that makes it a tedious boor or not.

For the collective that use weather forums et al, perhaps it is just their form of crime that they create a virtual impression of the world inside a box walled from reality by mental game-cocktails of counter-thesis.

lol... that wasn't what it was about.  One can't make an observation anymore without some sort of emotional attachment to it?  Some of us spend the majority of our time out-of-doors and actually notice these subtle variations.  We like the natural world.  August fields of tall grass get that golden hue, trees are slightly duller, there's most certainly a late-summer look during the dog days of August.

Its not meant to rush anything, lol.  Just observations.

Trees are not any more green or dark green or light green then normal. Each type of tree is more susceptible to heat and stress than other types can be. Completely normal to see differences as we head into late summer.

Trees obviously are not as light green anymore... its almost august. Deep, dark greennnnn. Healthy year for plants all around. I think we have had a substantial enough amount of rain to keep things hydrated.

Nice to see a more winter-like synoptic system...but I know synoptic systems don't happen during the warm season ;)

That sentence ought to be in someone's sig.  :o

Though individually the words all make sense, the combinations make me wish I'd sved my old psych textbook.

PF had it right - being in/around the woods every day can make such subtle changes more apparent.  And as for "dealing with it" for 2.5 months, that would be about Columbus Day, by which time my area will be a week past peak with 50%+ leaf drop.  Still plenty of summer to enjoy, however.

Man southern Cali weather must be so boring... they are going nuts over 0.14" of rain that fell in Los Angeles yesterday.  1 person killed by a lightning strike, too.  Reading some of the articles, you'd think a tropical storm came in, but it was a couple lightning strikes and some light rain.

________________

Storms dumped 0.14" of rain in just one hour on Sunday, which alone makes this the fourth-wettest July on record at Los Angeles International Airport, and the the wettest July there since 1992. Records at the airport began in 1944.

"Thunderstorms are uncommon at the beach in Los Angeles any time of year, but particularly in July," said weather.com senior digital meteorologist Nick Wiltgen. "Rain does not often reach the California beaches in July, but in this case monsoon moisture from the deserts drifted farther west than usual, allowing some showers and thunderstorms to fire up."

Wiltgen said, "Los Angeles is known for its microclimates, but at the LAX airport location specifically, measurable rain has only fallen in 20 out of the past 71 Julys. Sunday's storm dumped as much rain in one hour as had fallen in the previous 10 Julys -- 310 days' worth of rain -- combined."

It definitely feels a bit like a cold season CAA situation out there tonight with upslope NW winds helping to wring out leftover moisture on the backside of the ULL. It's a fine, but heavy drizzle that's heavier than the radar would suggest. It's pretty interesting to get this phenomenon in late July as this is typically a cold season occurrence. Down to 60° F and dropping into the 50s.

I had 3 thunderstorms today. One around 5:30 AM that dropped nearly 2 inches of rain in the span of an hour, followed by another around 2:30 and another at 4:30. The latter 2 dropped around 1.3" of rain collectively and each contained some decent wind gusts, the second of which produced 40-50 MPH gusts and knocked out power for a couple of hours. No hail was observed here and lightning was rather limited. All in all an interesting day though.

We don't need anymore rain. The ground is spongy and wet and there are pools of standing water around. This is going to make an already horrific mosquito problem even worse.

Feels almost like a September morning out today.

This has been a beautiful July in upstate NY.

Multiple mornings in the upper 40's.  I have been bike riding to work (around 0645 each day) in tights and a long sleeve jersey more than I can ever remember doing in July. It really does have a September or even early October feel.
