those departures are pretty decent, and it really has not felt that warm at all. Still a long ways to go for the month though. I honestly dont think SNE summer gets more average than what July has been, despite what the temp departures show. A couple of warm and muggy days, mixed with some pretty mild and nice days. I have used the AC maybe half the time this month, as opposed to 24/7 like last summer. It has been pretty nice to be honest.

Its pretty nice to be able to go outside and not start choking with 100 degree temps and a 70 degree dewpoint.

LOL-no way.  it was 65 in the sound here this weekend. The chamber of commerce pays TV stations to put out that high #.

Nope... we get it from the UCONN buoy off the coast of Branford.

Temperature this morning is 71F... though I did see it up to 74F on Friday.

Also... here's the NOAA water temperature sensor in New Haven which is at 74F and reached 76F over the weekend.

The water temperature in Fishers Island Sound and down by The Race in the far eastern portion of the sound is always 5-10F cooler than the rest of the Sound in the summer.

You can see the difference on this remotely sensed map pretty clearly.

Thank you.

I knew when Bob had it at 75 this morning he was probably correct. Temps are toasty..Only E Ma temps are chilly.

But near shore temps don't really do anything. All the buoys I saw were in the U60s except for one. Even down by LGA the water was 66. You'll always have fluctuations near shore of warmer and colder. I'm sure the near shore temp by HYA is near or just above 70 too.

Running about +2.5 here so far this month, and that's +2.5 for both max and min.  July 1-3 was +9, last 10 days much closer to avg.  I'm guessing my place finishes about +1.  Currently the CAR/GYX "top 4" are running between +2.8 for CON and +3.8 for CAR.  Precip is 3.20" up thru 7 this morning, about twice the to-date avg (3.78" for the full month.)  As noted above, no extremes, at least since the brief spell of mid-70s dews early on.

I would hope that someone would publish a current temp from an actual beach and not a harbor temp from three days ago!  You guys are better than that.  I'd expect something like that from Ch. 3 but not Ch. 30, lol.

I remember years ago when I was interning at a TV station that we would get calls from restaurants or managers of outdoor venues begging us to ease up on the use of rain on the weekend so that people would plan on going out.  They insisted that if we said that it looked like a wet weekend on a 5-day forecast that they would lose money.  I never bought into that but then again, a 5-day forecast wasn't as easy as it is now and was "prone to error".

Water temps are really tough to go by as well. I think near shore temps are better to report if you can. I see that all the time here. Everyone reports Boston Harbor buoy, but who cares...we aren't swimming 15 miles offshore where the water is colder. You only can do so much with limited reporting, but those offshore water temps are really only a proxy and not necessarily what you'll experience at the beach.

What do you mean 3 days ago?  I posted the current New Haven Harbor water temp on here but we don't use it on the air.

We use the UCONN buoy several miles off the coast of Branford. We don't have any current "beach" readings so that's the best we'll get.

Many GEFS members trying to converge upon an emerging -NAO ... perhaps rollout from the current trough incursion. It will be interesting to see what that may mean to the circulation structure as wave spacing argument at this time of year would imply a different correlation. Interesting

Yeah it would be nice to get some more near shore stuff. I know in ern MA, you can get 10F swings easily with SSTs near the shoreline depending on wind direction. Best day for a beach trip to ern MA is on a light seabreeze day. Reverse those winds and although air temp is likely warm to hot, that water probably dropped 5-10 degrees from upwelling...lol.

There were a lot of numbers and dates being thrown around.  Kevin mentioned that the temp. given on-air this morning was 75° and you said that the buoy that you did used was 74° on Friday but 71° this morning.  It was also mentioned that New Haven Harbor was in the 75° range on Saturday.  I guess my confusion was in the fact that the temperature that supported the temperature given on-air was 48 hours ago from a buoy that you don't use on-air.

It was supposed to be a joke but I guess that didn't come across....

lol no I got I was just confused as to which you were referring to. I wasn't there this morning so didn't see it but the data is pulled right in from NBDC/NOAA Buoy 44039.

Here's the data from this morning - http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=44039

I don't know why it would say 74 unless Kevin was watching last night.

Dews have been tame. That will change though. And then more COC for you this weekend. Summer as it should be for SNE.

exactly, totally tame dew month, still waiting for 90 here. I would say that like 75% of the land mass in CT has not hit 90 yet,for July pretty impressive. What is probably most telling is the only 1 high heat index day.

It's been very COC so far. I think my highest temps have been 92 and 90... that's pretty awesome for mid July!

It's been warm, but I guess my whole point is that we've had some nice interludes of cooler and drier wx. The numbers are what they are.

I couldn't have drawn it up any better honestly. What's telling to me is my pool is 75. It was actually cold Sat am in the camp. Looks like we continue to have a nice summer with nothing extreme to ruin outside work and fun.

Summer has been nice.

I'm over it.

Bring on the cold fronts that are actually capable of hauling a little ass, and send the heat back to Hades where it belongs.

Apple pie. Pumpkin beers. Vaguely-Halloween-themed television programming. Football Sundays. Ghost Peeps. Dry air. Frost. The death of the mosquitoes. Driving home in the dark. Hooded sweatshirts. Cider doughnuts.

"Summer has been nice." Get out of my house.
