There was plenty of instability and not horrible shear even all the way to the coast. The only issue was the cap, but once the storms to the west formed creating outflow, combined with seabreeze boundaries that formed, storms formed in a good environment to maintain their strength.

I just got over 2 inches of rain from that storm - thats what I was supposed to get in 2 days !!!

I think the models have a difficult time taking into account the amount of rain that can fall in 1 hour long thunderstorm - just got over 2 inches here in northern middlesex

And the funny thing is the flash flood watch starts tomorrow morning for 1-3" of rain. While the storms weren't exactly severe they were still very impressive and fairly decent for what we typically see around here.

Seeing a lot of lightning but most of it is cloud to cloud, there's minimal thunder.

There should be a pretty good light show off to you`re S over the water in the next 30 - 60 mins as those storms go crashing through Monmouth County then exit over the Atlantic just to the S of the area .

I might wager that tomorrows storms in many locations will not dump as much rain as this one just did
