Dsnowx53
There was plenty of instability and not horrible shear even all the way to the coast. The only issue was the cap, but once the storms to the west formed creating outflow, combined with seabreeze boundaries that formed, storms formed in a good environment to maintain their strength. Sundog
Why did these particular storms produce so much lightning? I'm familiar with lightning formation, just not what causes it in abundance like today's storms.

NEG NAO
I think the models have a difficult time taking into account the amount of rain that can fall in 1 hour long thunderstorm - just got over 2 inches here in northern middlesex
goldalex
Storm just finishing coming through in Bethpage. What an incredible show it just put on. Definitely one of the best storms I can remember. jm1220
Tons of lightning north of us and pitch black up there, barely more than a shower here as our part of the line broke up. Typical. Another storm threat bites the dust.

SnoSki14
I think the models have a difficult time taking into account the amount of rain that can fall in 1 hour long thunderstorm - just got over 2 inches here in northern middlesex And the funny thing is the flash flood watch starts tomorrow morning for 1-3" of rain. While the storms weren't exactly severe they were still very impressive and fairly decent for what we typically see around here.
TWCCraig
Seeing a lot of lightning but most of it is cloud to cloud, there's minimal thunder.
PB GFI
Seeing a lot of lightning but most of it is cloud to cloud, there's minimal thunder. There should be a pretty good light show off to you`re S over the water in the next 30 - 60 mins as those storms go crashing through Monmouth County then exit over the Atlantic just to the S of the area . I might wager that tomorrows storms in many locations will not dump as much rain as this one just did
