Yep...from LOT:

INTERESTINGLY...THE LARGE WAVES ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTED TO NEAR RECORD COLD WATER TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING. LARGE WAVES CAUSE UPWELLING...WHICH

BRINGS COLDER SUB-SURFACE WATER UPWARD TOWARD THE SURFACE RESULTING

IN A DROP IN SURFACE WATER TEMPERATURES. THE WATER TEMPERATURE AT THE SOUTHERN LAKE MICHIGAN MID LAKE BUOY

DROPPED TO 14.9C (58.8F) FOR SEVERAL HOURS THIS MORNING. ONLY

ONCE BEFORE HAVE WATER TEMPERATURES COLDER THAN THAT BEEN

OBSERVED AT THE MID LAKE BUOY THIS LATE IN THE SUMMER (JULY 28TH

THROUGH AUGUST 31ST)...WHICH WAS BACK ON AUGUST 29TH/30TH OF 2009

WHEN THE WATER TEMPERATURE DIPPED AS LOW AS 14.1C (57.4F).

TYPICALLY WATER TEMPERATURES AT THE SOUTHERN MID LAKE BUOY IN LATE

JULY AND AUGUST ARE IN THE UPPER 60S TO MID 70S. A LOOK BACK AT

HOURLY OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SOUTHERN MID LAKE BUOY GOING BACK TO

1981...PRIOR TO TODAY THERE HAD ONLY BEEN 19 HOURLY OBSERVATIONS

WITH WATER TEMPERATURES BELOW 15.0C (59.0F) THIS LATE INTO THE

SUMMER SEASON. OUT OF OVER 25,000 OBSERVATIONS THAT EQUATES TO

A FREQUENCY OF LESS THAN ONE TENTH OF ONE PERCENT!

This goes perfectly back to my comment about the LES season upcoming for this winter with the very cold sub surface lake temperatures.

50 with clear skies.  Will be the fail of all fails if we don't make it into the 40s.

Yet here via KBTL we finally just hit 51.. Using the other station ( Battle Creek 5nw ) it dropped to 49 just before midnight. Just about every other station has been down to 50 or lower except Grand Rapids and South Bend.

For the month KBTL has seen only one day dip below 50 vs 12 at the other station. Yes one appears to run a bit to cold and the other too warm and not much surrounds either station and are on the west side of town.

Coldest July ever possible at KIND...

July 2014 will very likely become the coolest July of record at Indianapolis as a result of this week’s cool spell.  The average temperature for July 2014 is forecast to be nearly 70 degrees or more than 5 degrees below the normal of 75.4 degrees.  This is about one half of a degree cooler than July 1947...currently the coolest July of record.

Five years ago July 2009 became the second coolest July of record and the coolest since 1947.  It has only been two years since the Indianapolis area experienced the hottest month of record.  The average temperature for July 2012 was 84.0 degrees ... nearly 14 degree warmer than this month.

Another perfect day.  80 with full sun and 50 degree dews.

A few towers building up to the northeast slowly trying to spiral in, but they'll likely crap the bed as sunset approaches.

EDIT:  Last month's 12+" of rain was nearly 8" above average, and it looks like we'll finish this month off with our 1.32", which would be over 3" below average.  Talk about a swing in weather.
