I'd hope SPC is considering pink at 20z given DCAPEs well over 1000 J/kg ahead of this thing, strong deep layer shear, increasing low level winds, and an extremely moist/unstable environment.

This thing has all it needs to become a potentially historic derecho.

Do we usually get an MCD announcing an upcoming upgrade or not always?

Usually, but I believe it's not always the case.

Edit: Ninja'd.

IIRC, last High Risk issuance for this area (sometime in the middle of last June, I believe) featured a MCD in advance. One would think they would announce such an upgrade in advance, just to get the word out, but I guess we'll have to see.
