Ginx snewx
Ok, it's faint but visible to the naked eye and a little higher in the sky now. DSCN8606.JPG nice but can't you get to a dark area?
eekuasepinniW
nice but can't you get to a dark area? Nah, it's freezing cold and I'm kinda lazy. Maybe if it gets better. The Bz is finally making a tediously slow but steady drop... hopefully it picks up the pace.
dendrite
I don't see anything here...maybe a hint of green on the far n horizon, but I can't make muchout with the visible eye. Clear and 49F though with a 5-10mph breeze.

wxeyeNH
I drove up to 1700 feet with a clear view to the N and NE. At 8:45pm for a short time there were very visible curtains extending to 45 above the horizon. Chimmering greens. Horizon itself was just a brighter green. Quickly drove home to get the cam and now at 9:15pm can't see anything obvious. Ginxy my cam faces SW in the wrong direction!

Juliancolton
Jealous of you folks up north. There was a little substorm about a half hour ago that yielded some purple pillars and curtains above the northern horizon down here, and that's *with* the Bz index pointed north. Watch out if it starts heading south.
klw
The local observatory has a sky cam. I wonder if the green tint is aurora. http://www.ameac.com/sbig_image/AllSkyCurrentImage.JPG

klw
Just was inspired enough to get out of bed and go for a walk. Nice moonrise through cloud gaps but can't say I saw anything else definitively. Heard some loud Canada geese nearby.
dendrite
I'm about to give up for the night. The Bz was trending weaker northerly so I was hoping for a flip to S, but alas it's climbing stronger N again. 47/

The Bz was trending weaker northerly so I was hoping for a flip to S, but alas it's climbing stronger N again. 47/42 I'm about to throw in the towel too. Proton density and solar winds are both way down... shame the initial CME strike didn't occur another six or eight hours later.
powderfreak
43/39 at 10pm....getting chilly. May realize our first 30s of the season, actually be surprised if we don't. Edit, just dipped to 42F.
powderfreak
MesoNet showing some crisp temps for 10pm...just dipped to 42F in Stowe Village, Base of Ski Area down to 39F, summit at 37F.
eekuasepinniW
Solar wind is still between 600 and 710 km/s and Bt at 29, so the potential is still there. The Bz is going to flip at some point (lol dawn?) and we'll still encounter pockets higher proton density. It doesn't look great but I'd give it another couple hours before throwing in the towel. Quite the bummer... so much potential was wasted this evening.

eekuasepinniW
I don't remember the Bt/Bz staying so amazingly steady for this long during any of the aurora displays at the peak of the last solar cycle. The Bt reading is almost starting to look like sensor malfunction?
eekuasepinniW
It's really amazing that I can sit here and refresh near real time data about the makeup of a cloud of plasma passing a satellite nearly a million miles out in space, but LCI can't handle measuring precip.
