Brick Tamland
Any suggestions on the best free weather app for a smartphone? WRAL has one I know. Also looked at Weatherbug and The WeAther Cannel one. Looking for one that gives info based on current location and other locations you add, and weather alerts for each.
Hvward
Radarscope. There is no comparison.
metalicwx366
Accuweather, Weatherbug, and The weather channel. I prefer the paid apps, I use Accuweather Platinum, Weather bug Elite, radarscope, Imap weather radio, and Pykl3. I Map Weather Radio is the fastest with the alerts in my opinion. Like mentioned above, radarscope is the best.
Brick Tamland
Radarscope. There is no comparison. Why do you say this? Does it have alerts for your current location and other locations you can set?
Disc
Radarscope. Don't need any other apps.
Crapper Jim
Yeah, I always end up going to NOAA. Always. <Have an app that gives me a quick radar. Go to for me. Then, it's The National Weather Service for any 'real' information. Weather apps are generally "shiate". ???
mackerel_sky
I'm happy with the free accuweather app. Good radar for a mobile phone.
Hvward
Why do you say this? Does it have alerts for your current location and other locations you can set? It won't send you notifications but in terms of what I need to be effective at nowcasting, radarscope has it all. Hi res velocity (4levels), correlation coefficient, hi res echo height, precip depiction... and the list goes on. Also you can put the radar in an advanced mode that allows you to identify boundaries and other things that can't be seen on a typical radar. jburns
I agree Radarscope is the go to app but some others have a few interesting features. Weatherbug Elite has a lightning distance away detector that I've found to be pretty accurate. It also shows the direction of the nearest strike. I wouldn't bet my life on it though. GaWx
Brick, Consider iWeathr. It gives access to all radars including animation, satellite, warnings, tropics, etc.

wx n of atl
I have radarscope... I always thought it had the fastest most updated radar.. it might not be real-time but faster than the other free weather apps. just my thought but I never really tested it to confirm. LithiaWx
Radar scope is worthy of the 10 dollar price tag. Awesome radar data on the go. I can't recommend it enough. I'm never caught off guard with radar scope. I love the hi res VIL and Echo tops but the best is the velocity mode so you can see if anything his spinning up around you tornado wise. mackerel_sky
If you have Coldrains phone, your going to need to be able to download the app in 8- track format! I do like th Wunderground free weather app. Good enough radar for my needs.
NCHurricane
I use Radarscope and 1Weather. This has proven to be the best combination for my needs.
WxBlue
If you want the best radar, there's no doubt Radarscope is the absolute best. I got no recommendation for general weather app with forecasts, current conditions, etc.
