weatherbob234
Anybody know where to find grib data and a viewer to view it with. I found one viewer it is called Meteo Explorer, it's pretty nice but some data won't work and some of the details are still in chinese.
ohleary
Unidata's Integrated Data Viewer should work for you. http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/
jgf
There are many grib viewers designed for use by sailors and other mariners. they are simple to use, and often allow you to download a grib by dragging a box around the area you want, and then selecting the variables you want. the only limitation is that they only support a few - maybe 10 - of the hundreds of variables in, for example, the GFS. these tend to be things of interest to sailors - mostly 10m wind, gust, MSLP, precip, 500mb, temp, cape, cloud cover, and maybe a few others. what do you want to view? Zygrib is a good free program http://www.zygrib.org/

bdgwx
I second IDV. It's very powerful, but also very difficult to use. I mean it's easy to show the raw GRIB variables, but if you want to show derived variables (like wind shear) it's actually kind of hard to do. In fact, I just noticed that in version 5.0 the Layer Wind Shear formula doesn't work. I had to define my own formula using it's Jython scripting language. It's possible I was doing something wrong. Anyway, now if I could only figure out SRH, EHI, STP, SCP, and other severe parameters... Any new rumors of the AWIPS II release?
