andyhb
Pretty piss-poor job by MKX here, we have an intense bookend vortex that has produced multiple tornadoes moving into one of the most heavily populated areas in the state...and no tornado warning at all or very delayed warnings. Stebo
Man, I don't know what they are doing but that whole area is a huge population center and it is painfully obvious there is a TDS right now...
Megaforce
Looks like it came real close if not hit Epic, hopefully not.

That Route 12/14/18 corridor is really populated.
Mogget
New tornado warning it looks like--I hear the noise from the weather channel but no new sirens. It's a very populated area, and it's sound asleep.
OHweather
They finally TOR'd it although if I had to pick a spot where a tornado is most likely it's probably just south of the polygon.

Yeah, there is another circulation to the north that they have the TW on, but the TDS was further south.

tornadotony
Looks like a possible TDS on the NE side of Madison now.
tornadotony
Make that another definite TDS. This vortex is going nuts.

OHweather
Yeah, there is another circulation to the north that they have the TW on, but the TDS was further south. There are definitely still a couple of circulations evident on the base velocity in the warning and a possible TDS just NE of Madison. Law enforcement reported damage with a tornado in Madison at 12:10AM CDT which would have been on the leading edge of the book end vortex. There may have been a TDS farther south near McFarland on the 12:29AM scan. Messy situation.
tornadotony
Debris up to 9600 ft. Could be a strong tornado.
Stebo
Verona was hit too, tornado marker showing up there. 1210 AM TORNADO VERONA 42.99N 89.54W06/17/2014 DANE WI LAW ENFORCEMENTWINDOWS BLOWN OUT OF HOUSE AND OTHER DAMAGE. Not good, wrong time of day for a major population center to have damaging tornadoes.

Stebo
Debris up to 9600 ft. Could be a strong tornado. That area that it hit near US 151 and 90/94 is a very populated area of Madison with a lot of businesses/hotels and residential areas being near 2 major highways. OHweather
DVN about to get it good. I see 4 embedded circulations...even if none of these produce, that's 90+ knots just a few hundred feet up in the dark blue.
Castaway
Yeah I've been eyeing that on my phone. I wonder if it'll hold by the time it gets here in dupage, west Chicago land area. It looks like its going east. But it could pull more northward. I don't know I've just been eyeballing it on the radar.
Castaway
At a second glance looks like the main brunt northern tip is going to be northward from here.
CHI_Weather
Tornado watch issued for N. IL, including the Chicago area.
CHI_Weather
I am starting to think the tornado watch was unnecessary at least for the Chicago area; the bulk of the severe storm is heading north, towards east of Madison, WI. It looks like we can get a brief downpour, maybe gusty winds; but it is seeming less likely, as least for the wee hours of the morning.
hawkeye_wx
We just got power back. Last night's storm was our worst in years. The wind started howling, which I expected, but then the real intense stuff hit and pieces of debris(sticks) started pelting the house so I went to the basement for the first time since I was a kid. The storm went on for nearly an hour. In addition to the wind, it was also the best lightning I've seen in quite a while. Combined with the next round of storms at 3am, my rain total was 2.81". My trees/garden came through unscathed, but a small/moderate tree across the street was blown down and apparently a larger tree was knocked down onto a house on the next street. cyclone77
The first line completely fizzled before reaching here, but the second one around 4am brought a few quick 40-50mph gusts and 0.14" of rain. Was a little worried when it was just west of DVN with a pocket of nearly 100kts at under 1000ft agl.
hawkeye_wx
I just walked around the block and there is significant tree damage. On my street a small dead tree is down and a real nice medium-size tree up the street was snapped at the base. On the next street a couple big trees have significant limb damage and one very large tree was yanked right out of the ground.
