Hey JoMo,

Did you happen to get a screen capture of it?  Or anything I can pass along to the WFO here for verification?

No, sir. I did not.  I did check out his Facebook page and he has a picture that states it was 2-3 miles north of Melvin, IA and that it was very brief and on the ground less than a minute before dissipating.

I've seen a lot of incorrect assertions that both tornadoes were responsible for the damage in Pilger, it was only the first one.

typical crappy reporting/ media... Trying to get the story out as quick as possible w/o fact checking. Happens everytime we get something like this, except usually it deals with fatalities.

Wednesday looks more interesting than SPC/Hi-res models would suggest, per pattern recognition. Western Minnesota is worth watching. Outflow will be in place from morning rain, promoting good low level turning. LLJ from 925 to 850 mb will be more impressive than today. Speed shear and turning will be good up to 500 mb. Start to get into veer-back up toward 200 mb; however, it looks like a nice set-up overall.

I'd expect morning rain to depart. New storms may go in the Dakotas early due to lift near the upper low and cooler mid-level temps. However a gap is noted between that rain, and rain in the Upper Midwest, over western Minnesota. Should that verify, plus Goldilocks 700 mb temps, the door is open to destabilization in a favorable environment.

Just took a peek at the CIPS top severe analogs and those hit Wednesday really hard.

Yeah, that thing is going off. Over 115 kts GTG aloft now.

AT 254 PM MDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A TORNADO 9 MILES
WEST OF CAMP CROOK...OR 30 MILES SOUTHEAST OF EKALAKA. DOPPLER
RADAR SHOWED THIS TORNADO MOVING NORTHEAST AT 15 MPH.

AT 252 PM SPOTTERS WERE TRACKING A TORNADO ON THE GROUND NEAR

Here our some of our favorite pictures from yesterday. Victor took pictures (over 900 to be exact, whoops) along with go pro video and I took normal HD video. Videos will be up hopefully tomorrow or the next day.

Played the chase as a whole perfectly, didn't make one wrong decision and played it safe staying SE of the tornado as it went through Pilger and had a great view with an amazing clear slot.  The got to watch to our north as we had two violent tornadoes on the ground.

I have video of the first big wedge before Pilger as it was wrapped it rain but have the left and right edge on video.

Much more to come in coming days.

Had to post this...better view of those roofs being lofted in the air

By 2:10 the video goes from impressive to one of the most intense I've seen this year.

That might be some of the most impressive footage I've seen in terms of debris lofting in detail. Awesome video although I wouldn't mind if that woman's voice was edited out. Thanks for sharing it!

MCD out for an area with some very robust parameter space later on.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1042
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0512 PM CDT TUE JUN 17 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...NERN NEB...SERN SD...EXTREME SWRN MN AND NWRN IA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY

VALID 172212Z - 180015Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...80 PERCENT

SUMMARY...THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INITIATE OVER NERN
NEB...SERN SD OR NWRN IA BY 00Z. SUPERCELLS WITH VERY LARGE HAIL AND
A FEW TORNADOES WILL BE INITIAL PRIMARY THREATS, BUT THE THREAT FOR
MORE WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WIND WILL INCREASE THROUGH THE EVENING.

DISCUSSION...EARLY THIS EVENING A WARM FRONT EXTENDS FROM EXTREME
NRN NEB INTO SERN SD THEN SEWD THROUGH NRN IA. ELEVATED MIXED LAYER
WITH VERY STEEP /8.5-9 C/KM/ 700-500 MB LAPSE RATES HAVE ADVECTED
ABOVE THE AXIS OF RICH GULF MOISTURE THAT EXISTS IN VICINITY OF AND
SOUTH OF THIS BOUNDARY RESULTING IN 3000-4000 J/KG MLCAPE. VISIBLE
SATELLITE SHOWS CUMULUS INCREASING ALONG THE FRONT...ESPECIALLY FROM
NERN NEB INTO SERN SD AND EXTREME NWRN IA...WHILE WV IMAGERY SHOWS
WHAT APPEARS TO BE A SHORTWAVE TROUGH LIFTING NEWD THROUGH THE CNTRL
PLAINS. DEEPER FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH APPROACHING SHORTWAVE TROUGH
AND STRENGTHENING LLJ WILL AUGMENT MESOSCALE ASCENT ALONG THE
FRONT...EVENTUALLY RESULTING IN THUNDERSTORM INITIATION EARLY THIS
EVENING. WINDS ARE ESELY IN VICINITY OF THE FRONT WITH VEERING
LOW-LEVEL WINDS AND UP TO 40 KT DEEP SHEAR. UPDRAFTS INITIATING
WITHIN THIS ENVIRONMENT WILL LIKELY UNDERGO EXPLOSIVE DEVELOPMENT
GIVEN THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY. STORMS SHOULD MOVE EWD WHERE THEY
WILL INTERACT WITH ZONE OF ENHANCED VORTICITY ALONG THE
BOUNDARY...AUGMENTING THE THREAT FOR LOW-LEVEL MESOCYCLONES AND
TORNADOES.
