Wow, what a great little storm! Amazingly good structure for something that was just barely a supercell. Striations, curving inflow band, and a well-formed wall cloud that went right over New Haven! Watched it from the Ikea parking lot at Long Wharf… Was totally surprised to see a rain-free base with a lowering, way better structure than anything I expected to see. Before anybody asks, no, I didn’t see much in the way of obvious low-level rotation - but everything else was there! Took some no doubt crappy pics from my crappy cell phone, don’t know if they came out… And anyway my phone-to-computer cable is broken and Bluetooth never worked, but I’ll get another cable and try to post the pics I took tomorrow. You’ll be surprised, I sure was.

getting some decent lightning to the north from that cell now. unfortunately best action will miss here by 5-10 miles to the north.

It's been all fizzles E of the river / south of the pike the last two nights.

last week too...at least down here near the shore. hoping we can get a decent threat all the way to the shoreline at some point this year.

I will say this week has been good for observing storm structure. ct_yankee obviously had a good view from New Haven tonight. And two nights ago I got a really nice view of the anvil of a storm over Fairfield County from down a Hammonassett State Park. Tough to get things to work out to be able to observe single cell storm structure like this around New England.

All of 0.01" overnight - things continued to die as they moved eastward.

Where were you moosing, Pittsburg? Or did they do the Errol-Rangeley loop? Both places are moosetastic.

We were in Jefferson, NH and near the Mt Washington hotel. Saw 5 moose. One cow for 30 minutes. I have seen them in Mass and saw 2 dead ones on my commute this spring

Yep, you pretty much just have to get lucky, what with the trees and hills and frequently rush hour traffic... It's not really chasing, most often you'll only get one chance to intercept. Pick a spot, let the cell come to you, and hope it happens to look good at that point, because you probably won't catch it again. It's a precarious art, filled with frustration and near-misses. But tonight I was perfectly placed, and for once the storm cooperated.

Just looked at my pics, definitely some worth posting. Poor contrast killed the structure shots from far away, but as the storm got closer I got the base and wall cloud, real ominous looking lowering, with some of the overall structure still in the frame. Very pretty indeed for this area, I've only seldom seen better structure here in NE. Will post the pics tomorrow.

it's not just placement either...even when we do get discrete cells, often there's debris or blowoff that obstructs and view of the cell too.
