good thing we don't need rain

looks cool, dry, and boring for the foreseable future

Some parts of the Plains have received some much needed rains over the past few weeks.  Looks like more of the same in the coming week.  Might make it a little harder for the heat dome to expand up this way for awhile, which would keep the storm complexes further south as well.  Hopefully this won't be a trend we see much of the summer.

I think I'll take that over the opposite, heat dome expanding due to dire drought in the Plains and Mississippi Valley.  That said, even this 'cool' period doesn't look much off average, and those first three days of the month may well make it difficult to manage a below average month even if we go into an extended cool spell.

I follow a Lake Superior page on facebook and they have been posting tons of photos everyday of the ice's progress. Just incredible. With summer foliage in full swing, every once in a while when I look at the fence in the backyard or some other things in the neighborhood that were buried over the winter, and realize how high they are off the ground, I just think of what an incredible winter we just had despite the finally lush green landscape. But up there they still have visual remnants of the winter to go WITH the green landscape and summery air.

Anyway back to current weather. We picked up 0.21" of rain in yesterdays boring stratiform light rain, sitting at 0.24" on the month I am probably the driest spot in SE MI so far in June.

Today is one of those days I wish I could bottle up for the rest of summer. Sunny, low 52F, high 75F.

4 year anniversary of the most prolific local tornado outbreak I have ever seen. Between 1030-230 a total of 6 twisters touched down with above EF2 strength including the EF4 that went through Lake Twp killing 7. I chased that twister that night as it missed my buddy's house by 200 yards in it's infancy and we later flew down the main state highway tailing it. Full wedge with a satellite tornado on it, the amount of debris was staggering and the thing that blew me away was the school bus thrown into the football stadium

I'm pretty happy to see the WPC map showing another several inches of rain possible over the next week across the central/southern plains.  It's great relief for the severe drought region and also I've had enough of the bone dry heat ridge the last couple summers.

Of course, all the action down south is leading to yet another snoozer of a severe season around here.  I can't remember anything exciting happening this time of year since the historic flood of '08... not that I want to see my house and garden shredded by wind-blown baseball size hail.

Pretty lame stretch of weather we're in now, and continue to be in for the next week or so.  Hopefully things get more interesting for the last half of June.  Been a very benign warm season so far in these parts to be sure.

All the interesting weather has been south and west.  We may get some moderate rain today and then possibly little else for another week.  At least we've been seeing June-like temps.

Yeah, not a single tornado so far in Wisconsin, now creeping into the top 10 for latest first tornado in the state.

Yeah seeing dews this low is depressing. I'm getting into that stage hoping for even a shower at this point.

Might of gotten spoiled from this winter with the near constant action of snow.

Have you gone weeks without rain or something?  Through most of the Great Lakes rainfall has been about normal as of late or even above in spots.

Looks like it turns a tad cooler in the extended range.

Looking back a few days, noticed Phoenix, AZ on June 5th was 104F/0F ...  now that is some dry air.

Rubbing your pant legs together could cause a wildfire with that dewpoint.

Yeah, I saw a 97/-6 and 101/-2 at Las Vegas over the past few afternoons...RH of 2%.

It would be weird walking around with a cold beer and having the glass bone dry without a drop of condensation at 100+ degrees.

My sinuses hurt just hearing about this.

My brother in law went kayaking on Lake Superior last weekend in the arrowhead of MN. He took some pics of some decent size 'icebergs'. Looked like something out of Alaska.

Lake Superior is officially ice free as of YESTERDAY.

It lasted until June 6th.

I saw a pic on June 3rd and those chunks were still pretty big, I'm going to guess there are some lurking around.

Got more rain than expected over here... 0.97" at my house.  Every other spotter and weather station in Cedar Rapids got well over an inch, as did towns just west and north of CR.  There was some good convergence on the nw side of the MCS that enabled some heavy rain cells to bubble up within a larger band of moderate rain.
