KDIX has been terrible for years, mucho down time, even when it's up you often get a crappy loop.

Do you not think the technicians at my office have been working numerous hours to get the radar back up? And the radar has not been terrible for years. The last major down time was back in 2011. The crappy loop has nothing really to do with the radar; that is most likely a web issue (I have seen similar issues on the web at other radar sites).

Anyone know what is wrong with it? It's been down for days

There was a part failure about a week ago which also included some burnt hardware. That was replaced and repaired, however several other issues developed following that. Beyond that, I am not sure of the specifics but most likely the technicians at my office are quite frustrated. They are working countless hours trying to get the radar back operating again.

I'm with BucksCo on this one.

It's had a horrendous amount of downtime over the last few years. Especially right during big weather events.

Probably could of put a new radar up there, considering the amount of repair costs over the years. (taxpayers)

Thanks for your thoughts.

No luck with the radar still. Apparently at least one part keeps burning out and it is not known why. Sounds like some specialists from the Radar Operations Center (Oklahoma) are coming out to provide more assistance.

I hear through the grapevine the Jersey Devil's been active around those parts recently. It's presence could be causing a sharp temperature rise and consequently the burning out of said part. I'd consider relocating the radar further away from the Pine Barrens, like Freehold for example.

Damn. At least there hasn't been much going on.

Back by popular demand.

Despite the peanut gallery's ramblings the work is appreciated.  Serious questions though Mike, the radars are called WSR-88d's...does that imply they equipment is from 1988?

At least it provided some cool colors before it took a dump.

TPHL has been useful.  Helps with it being so close.

lol

Looks like Clean Air Mode to me.

The original installations were based on a deployment developed in 1988.  Of course, there have been upgrades since then, such as dual polarization.  KDIX proper was installed in the early-mid 90's (don't recall exactly, I wanna say 1994).

If I remember correctly, the Doppler Radars were built and ready for installation in the late 80's (thus WSR-88D). However, most installations did not get completed until the early 90's. But in general, the equipment is from the late 80's. Some upgrades have taken place since though.

You and I posted pretty much the same time. :). WFO PHI opened in 1993 and I believe KDIX was already operational.

That was probably because the calibration was way off before the radar stopped working again.

Yeah, something funky was going on.  I remember posting that radar image to the Mt Holly Facebook page.  Then, right after, it started working normally again before it completely went out.  Hopefully it won't be down for much longer.  Thanks for the updates.
