NycStormChaser
I don't remember Earl affecting the area other that large swells and maybe Montauk getting some tropical storm conditions. I'm not positive, but there might have been tropical storm watches or warnings for eastern LI. And I think there were hurricane warnings for the cape but it passed by as a tropical storm. The wind was definitely stronger the further east you went so I'm sure Montauk had stronger winds than fire island for example. I vividly remember driving east on ocean parkway from jones beach to fire island and just seeing the wall of rain the further east you go. Not even drizzling until right before you enter the heavy rain band.

IsentropicLift
was just thinking that. Great model for 12 hr QPF amountsSome people never learn that globals don't handle short range convection very well. They are good for broad brushing regions of where it will occur or could occur but the high res mesoscale models have the resolution to nail it down. ag3
The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Kings (Brooklyn) County in southeast New York... Queens County in southeast New York... southern Fairfield County in southern Connecticut... western Nassau County in southeast New York... New York (Manhattan) County in southeast New York... Bronx County in southeast New York... Westchester County in southeast New York... eastern Bergen County in northeast New Jersey... Hudson County in northeast New Jersey... Rockland County in southeast New York... * until 1230 am EDT... * at 927 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated a large area of heavy rain oriented north to south. Rainfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour will be experienced in this band. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising. A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
IsentropicLift
Models nailed the 2nd max for LI and eastern NYC.Yeah that's why I've received almost an inch here since 6pm. LI may end up with higher totals but the models were way too dry out here.
Wannabehippie
Models nailed the 2nd max for LI and eastern NYC. I just got a flash flood warning alert on my cell for my area. The streets are already flooded due to the downpours,so that warning makes sense.

IsentropicLift
It almost looks as if that very heavy band is moving NNW, probably going to nail the city and Bergen County, NJ the hardest.
IsentropicLift
We may not be done after this either, looks like more activity is firing east of the VA Capes although it looks like just some showers at the moment. In any event the activity seems to be moving almost due north or even NNW once it reaches the latitude of central NJ.
