Just came across this on Facebook... and as we all know, Cancer Sucks...

Some news about my health, in a statement written and posted by David Clark, President of Television, The Weather Channel....

As some of you know, Dr. Greg Forbes will be off our air for a few weeks beginning tomorrow. During a routine annual physical, Greg was diagnosed with colon cancer, and he will have surgery this week. Doctors believe that the cancer was discovered early, and they are very positive about his prognosis.

Dr. Forbes expects to be off the air for several weeks while he recuperates. In the meantime, thanks in part to his tutelage, we have a well-trained team both behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera. Carl Parker, Dr. Greg Postel, Jim Cantore and Mike Bettes will continue to provide viewers with the expert insights and severe weather coverage they have come to depend on and expect. We will continue to use Dr. Forbes' TORCON index, and will not be surprised when he starts sharing his severe weather insights with the team before anyone sees him back on air or in the office.

Dr. Forbes commitment to our audience in times of severe weather has always been remarkable, but witnessing him go full bore during the storms these past few days, knowing what he has been dealing with, is something I, for one, will tell my grandkids about. We are grateful for him and look forward to his full recovery and welcoming him back very soon.

I know how much all of us care for StormMaster G, and many of you will want to help. Look for an email in the next few days about that. Please join me in wishing Greg a speedy recovery and in keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

David Clark

.003 inches of rain in the last 10 days, no rain for atleast next 7 days, temps next week mid- upper 80s! That's a recipe for a bad start to a long, dry, hot summer!

With what looks like a pretty strong El Niño oncoming, it is highly doubtful that there would be a dry, hot summer. I wouldn't worry about that at this time.

My thoughts and prayers are going to Dr. Forbes' recovery. What a great talent at TWC!

I'm glad I wasn't expecting 5-8 inches of rain and only get 0.003. I would never stopped whining.

I am disappointed with the forecast bust today. This was our greatest chance of rain here.

TWC says the surgery for Dr. Greg Forbes went very well. He is going to try to walk today.

Man I love Greg Forbes.  The guy truly loves what he does, and does it for the right reason: to save people's lives.  I thought it was admirable the way he used his diagnosis to encourage others to get their yearly check-ups.  He is a great role model for anyone interested in getting into weather.

with the current pdo cycle we will see moderate at best. The last two years have brought hope of el Nino only to fade during late summer and fall.

I remember two years back when it suddenly looked like a weak Nino was forming in late Oct. Then it turned out that the OISST Nino maps were misleading or even wrong. I didn't think one was oncoming last year. However, this year is far different when one considers the very warm subsurface. I agree about the current -PDO regime tending to hold back El Nino. However, due to the strong subsfc warmth, I don't see El Nino being stopped. Instead of moderate at best, I'm thinking strong at best (as opposed to super strong at best).

My current prediction is for a +1.4 to +1.9 ONI peak this fall or winter.

I'll bet Mack remembers the drought (about 2000, maybe a bit earlier) when crossing the bridge

over the Catawba, off 74 = Mostly grass.  I'd lived in Charlotte most my life 'till age 40, or so.

A creek behind my house was "bone dry". Never saw that in the 30+years I'd lived there.

Drove to a place I used to swim as a youth.  Right off 16, below a dam, near Mountain Island.  No water at all...

...just rocks, as far as I could see.  People were taking photos.

A week later - Drought solved w/ a deluge of rain.  I wonder what might have happened if the drought continued

just another month.

Gotta go water some shiate.  Water like "Gold" in Fountain Inn.  That's according to last year's bills.

Does Anyone remember this from 25 years ago today?

Of course I remember,.... That's the F-4 tornado I watched from my front yard. I never will forget the roar of an F-4 tornado. For those who have never heard it, at a distance, to me it sounded like thunder that never quit. It was just a constant rumble. It's something you don't forget and I would recognize it immediately if I ever heard it again.
