The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... southern Bergen County in northeast New Jersey... Essex County in northeast New Jersey... Hudson County in northeast New Jersey...

* until 745 PM EDT...

* at 659 PM EDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail...and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located near Orange...and moving east at 20 mph.

* Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Bloomfield...Newark...Harrison...Kearny...Lyndhurst...Rutherford... Bayonne...Secaucus...Jersey City...Union City...Hoboken and Ridgefield

In addition to large hail and damaging winds...continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately! Lightning is one of natures number one killers. Remember...if you can hear thunder...you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Had what I thought was almost a wall cloud feature pass over. Really awesome storm structure despite low shear. This is the same cell that blew up over southern Passaic and Essex Counties.

Yup, same here. I could definitely see some rotation in the clouds. It's pitch black out right now, but the storm seems to be weakening as I'm not seeing as much lightning as I was a few mins ago.

I'm right between the split of the two storms in jersey city. I can't imagine how it is actually under those cells. Very heavy rain and some hail

Didn't see any hail just some moderate rain and some thunder/lightning despite the very menacing look to the skies before the storm arrived.

Don't you love how storms seem to always split around Jersey City? I've gotten used to it Lol

I have only been in jersey city two months, what a great view at storms once you go outside the city, especially from a boat!
