Tekken_Guy
April's been colder than usual this year. We should be around 65 degrees for this time of year, but the weather hasn't exactly been cooperating. We had that brief warm spell last week and the warm Tuesday as well, but otherwise, nothing. When will the warmth be finally able to be dominant?

BTW, if you're suggesting the warmth will be here to stay after Memorial Day, then you're suggesting a colder than average May.

An average May could feature heat waves and periods of rainy/cool weather (like last May). Not sure what you mean by warmth but if you say 70s or above its usually around memorial day that the warmth settles in
doncat
Precip is below normal this month so we haven't had many cloudy dreary days, and with temps averaging very close to normal, it hasn't been bad.
IsentropicLift
My guess is sometime around Memorial Day given the long range look and teleconnections.
SnoSki14
The nonstop warmth will come when it always does, usually near or after Memorial Day. It's still April so warministas need to chill out. They'll be plenty of warmth and heat to come and we've been near to slightly above normal as of today. I'm thinking we finish slightly below by the time the month wraps up given next weeks mostly below normal temps.

Tekken_Guy
IMO, after this storm next week we should hopefully start to see more sustained warmth. It should be here to stay for good after Memorial Day.

I think it feels cooler than normal this April because many of our recent April were warm. Maybe some of our stat guys can get on that. This is an average April for our area. Guest Pamela
In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, chilly Marquette has only seen three days this April when the temperature did not drop below freezing...looks like a rather short growing season in the U.P. Isotherm
May 8th +/- a couple days should begin the transition to normal to warmer than normal temperatures for the rest of May based upon what I'm looking at analogs / modeling / pattern progression wise. That's much later than normal. Warmth regularly showed up in the last week of April 2011. 2012 and 2013 had seesaw periods starting in mid-April with warmth becoming dominant around the 2nd week of May. This year NYC is still on the cold side of this pattern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not sure what you define as warmth but 70s normally are not that frequent in April. That type of warmth looks pretty much on track to what normal is by mid May. We've seen abnormally warm Aprils in past years so this years near normal April feels cooler than normal but it's really as typical as one might expect it to be. The arctic is also not doing that good, cold air will be running out of steam soon.

I think there has been a few very windy days which made the temps feel cooler. I would love to see a string of sunny days in the mid 60's with low winds. We could use some rain though. NEG NAO
No above average or 80 degree day in sight . More then likely we will have to wait till around Memorial Day for the consistent warm weather to kick in with high temps above 75 and lows above 60 till then keep the sweaters and light coats handy http://wxweb.meteostar.com/sample/sample.shtml?text=kewr
