Sophisticated Skeptic
looks like another active day. just to our west MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1314 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1029 AM CDT TUE JUL 08 2014 AREAS AFFECTED...OH...PA...NY CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY VALID 081529Z - 081700Z PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...80 PERCENT SUMMARY...A SUBSTANTIAL WIND DAMAGE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS MORNING AS A SQUALL LINE ORGANIZES ACROSS OH AND MOVES INTO WRN PA AND WRN NY. A QLCS TORNADO THREAT MAY ALSO DEVELOP ALONG THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LINE. WW ISSUANCE WILL LIKELY BE NECESSARY AS THE SEVERE THREAT INCREASES THIS MORNING. DISCUSSION...THE LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A COLD FRONT FROM LOWER MI EXTENDING SSWWD INTO INDIANA. SFC DEWPOINTS AHEAD OF THE FRONT ARE IN THE UPPER 60S F ACROSS MUCH OF THE OH VALLEY EXTENDING INTO THE ERN GREAT LAKES REGION. MODERATE INSTABILITY SHOULD CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AS SFC TEMPS WARM OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. THIS ALONG WITH A BAND OF STRONG LARGE-SCALE ASCENT EVIDENT ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY OVER THE OH VALLEY WILL SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FAST-MOVING SQUALL-LINE LATE THIS MORNING. SHORT-TERM MODEL FORECASTS SUGGEST THAT A LINE SEGMENT IN WRN OH COULD BE THE BEGINNING OF A LINEAR MCS THAT IS FORECAST TO MOVE ENEWD ACROSS NCNTRL OH...WRN PA INTO WRN NY THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. THE WSR-88D VWP AT CLEVELAND OH AND PITTSBURGH PA SHOW STRONG SPEED SHEAR IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER WITH 0-6 KM SHEAR AROUND 60 KT AND UNIDIRECTIONAL WIND PROFILES. THIS SHOULD BE FAVORABLE FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AS THE LINE SEGMENT OVER WRN OH GRADUALLY GROWS UPSCALE. IN ADDITION TO THE SUBSTANTIAL WIND-DAMAGE THREAT...ROTATING CELL ELEMENTS EMBEDDED IN THE MCS MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH A THREAT FOR A TORNADO OR TWO. KamuSnow
A pretty healthy looking line of thunderstorms on the radar, due here between 8 and 9 pm. According to Mt. KamuSnow
Pughtown is me, but I'm In AC right now so will miss it. Nice sunny evening here with sea breeze keeping it in the mid 70s. Sounds nice! I guess a lot of folks are away on vacation, surprised not more posts ahead of this line. I know there's been a few that have fizzled out this summer, but this one (so far) looks like it will hold together. Not expecting much rain out of this, it's moving so fast. The wind potential has me concerned as we have some large old trees.

SouthernNJ
Still some 60+ mph gusts on TPHL radar moving into Gloucester and Camden counties, the fast movement of the line was sure to surprise some people, which would be reasoning also for eye-catching wording. dork2
I've also noticed how the warnings have been stressing the severity much more than normal. To anybody who has gotten hit by the storm, is it as severe as said? Near the downingtown exit off the PA Turnpike, had some strong 50+ winds that lasted about 5 minutes. Very little rain, back to calm and orange skies now.

Treckasec
Is there a problem with the radar? The winds are said to be fairly strong, but there's little to no rain, though the radar shows 40-50 dbz.

JTA66
The other odd thing is, usually when a line like this comes through, you get strong winds for maybe 5 min or so. But it's been a good 1/2 hour of strong gusty winds.

Chief83
Worcester, PA. Not much here. Some strong gusty winds for a period of time. Only a couple of hundreds inch of rain. .07 for the day (some around 3 PM). Line looked impressive in Lancaster Cty and did the typical "fall apart" as it hits Montgomery Cty. On to the next one. To be fair - the storm was not much here in Worcester, but in other parts of Montgomery Cty there were some weather related fire calls.
