SmokeEater
I don't think I've ever seen hail like this around here. First pic is a damaged vehicle near Reading, second is in Cumberland County near Vineland. And I turned around when I saw that cell turn hard right because I didn't want to go that far south... BBasile
Holy crap. Looks like some of these pics came from the plains. Only got 0.24" here (Turnersville). Glad that storm moved to the south of here, though. Had nowhere safe to park my car.

zenmsav6810
Real curious to know how slippery driving on hail is My guess is very slippery judging by the Mercedes 4Matic I saw at school. Thats capable a car as I seen go in the snow and it was sliding every which way when coming down a small hill a low speed. The physics of hail allow it to float on top of standing rain water and it lacks the cohesion that snow has, due to snows dendrites which hold flakes together. ChescoWx
Just found my anemometer cups off my VP2 remote from the roof on my front lawn - must have blown off during peak of the storms yesterday. Total rain yesterday 0.91" We are way above normal for rainfall here in NW Chesco for both the month 3.66" (+0.76") and YTD 27.46" (+10.13") - farmers in the township are very happy! KamuSnow
Does anyone know if there was evidence of a funnel cloud in southwest Delaware County with yesterday's storm (say around 39.51 N and 75.31 W)? The main part of the storm passed by to the east of where I'm located, it seemed to be moving roughly NNW to SSE at the time, and winds here gusted to probably 40 mph out of the ENE. But with all the noise from the wind and rain, there was a deeper low roar/rumble sound, off to the east, and I could hear a couple of transformers blow and some trees breaking from that direction. The sound was constant for a couple of minutes. I experienced a (documented) funnel cloud before, and the one thing I remember (besides the damage to the trees), was that sound. I took a drive over there earlier, and there is some tree damage. Lots of leaves gone too, although that's probably from the hail. All in all one of those thunderstorms you remember. MAG5035
Does anyone happen to have any Radar recordings of today's Reading Area storm? Thats one to keep for future generations. Some of the pics of the hail accumulations/damage in this thread are nuts.. wow. Here's my saved GR2Analyst shot of the storm right over Reading yesterday via CCX radar. Reflectivity top left (70+ DBZ), estimated hail size derived from the VIL products top right (max of 3.26" in that particular frame). Bottom left is the CC product which shows the hail core and also shows a downstream shadow in CC values likely from the radar beam being affected by the large hail, and lastly echo tops which I just used as a filler for the fourth panel (in excess of 45k feet). I think what's really something about the off the charts values of the VIL products is that CCX was hitting this storm at about 12k feet and up since it is quite far away. Of course DIX was down and LWX had a similar beam height. It's already a pain tracking storms in east central PA as radar coverage gets stretched pretty thin between BGM, CCX, and LWX radars.
