Scott747
Just saw this scanning around twitter. Remarkable recovering the dry air intrusions the past few days. Good timing with the International Hurricane Conference going on at South Padre,TX Yeah I've been out of pocket for a bit and just getting back up to speed. I believe the group out of Australia that are friends with Josh will be intercepting Ita. Looking like it could make landfall on par with Yasi... Juliancolton
Eye looks to have cooled a bit over the past couple hours, but an impressive core nonetheless.

wxmx
Cape Flattery reported 10 min sustained winds of 61kts gusting to 86kts and a minimum central pressure of 962.3mb...Ita just missed them to the right, leaving them well within the left front quadrant, which is supposedly the strongest part of the cyclone. Considering this, and making the conversion to 1 min sustained winds, that leaves us with a roughly 70kts Cat 1 cyclone. Pressure is pretty low, and it should have been lower in the eye, probably in the mid 950s. I guess the ERC took it's toll, and the inner eyewall was in a weakening trend prior to landfall.
