This is spring. 50s and 60s with sunny and rainy days. Mid to late spring is when you get in to the 70s and higher, so patience.

If it was 50's and rain I would know it is spring. Currently sitting at 42 and it feels like mid November to me. I do not mind rain but cold raw rain brings a chill to my bones. I seriously cannot get warm today. Am sitting here typing with gloves on. :)

Thinking about going to Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park at the end of the month. Has anyone stayed at any of the lodges, looking at Skyland Resort (looks like a good location).

Massanutten is good, although it is a bit off of Skyline Drive (you have to take Rt 33 west from Skyline Dr to get there).  http://www.massresort.com/

Also, I've heard good things about Big Meadows, which is right on Skyline Drive at about 3500' elevation.  http://www.goshenandoah.com/big-meadows-lodge.aspx

If you continue along the Skyline Dr, once you hit Interstate 64, the road becomes the Blue Ridge Pkwy, which also has some nice lodges.  Wintergreen is probably the nicest, but again it's a little bit off the Pkwy.

You have other options of staying just off the Park in Elkton, Waynesboro/Staunton, and Charlottesville.   Staunton has an excellent downtown (I know, I grew up there) with several nice hotels and B&Bs.  It is about 20-25min from the Blue Ridge pkwy/Skyline Dr interchange on I-64.

Not sure if you are into wine, but there are also dozens of wineries minutes from Skyline Dr and Shen National Park.  Some of the best ones are just to the east of the Blue Ridge, so staying in Culpeper, Gordonsville, or C'ville are options there.  Also there are some of the best breweries in the mid-atlantic in Nelson County, just SW of C'ville.

Everyone up here is moody about the weather.  You have to remind people we live a few miles from a gigantic body of water where the water temps are still in the 40s.  It takes time.

I've camped at big meadows. Skyland is a sweet spot for cabins. It's pretty cool staying on the ridge with so many cool things to see north or south. I can't recommend the quick hike to the top of Stony Man enough. Killer western views. There are cool falls to hike to as well. Some are kinda far from the road. Depends on how motivated you are. It's hard to get bored up there. No doubt about that.

Good hike a few miles south of there at Humpback Rocks too.  Just tons to see and do there, especially as we move deeper into Spring/Summer.  The wineries on either side of the Blue Ridge are fantastic as well.

I am not moody about the weather. You do not have to remind me that we live near water. It has been more of a up and down sort of year so far with weather and did not realize that my comments would be so off the mark.

NPS posted on their facebook page that cherries are now at the puffy white stage. 4-6 days til peak. Looks like we will get 3-4 days of sunshine, so the Thursday-Sunday time frame looks good. The weekend looks great right now, so it'll be packed down there. Gotta get there real early.

It feels like a different planet for only being a couple hours from the beltway.

I'm hiking Old Rag with my kids next week as long as the weather cooperates one of the days. It's a big knob on the east side of the blue ridge if you've never been there. Super fun rock scramble across the ridge before the descent. 8 miles round trip and 2,500' elevation up. The descent is boring but the first half is a blast.

Awesome! Thanks!!!

Still debating on whether to stay at a hotel in one of the towns or at the lodges. Might lean to lodge so less travel time and more time for hiking & photography. Looks like some beautiful waterfalls & views.

As of yesterday around the DC Tidal Basin, there were two cherry blossom outbreaks: one around the MLK memorial and another close to the Jefferson Memorial.

Other than that, buds but only 10 percent cherry blossoms.

Yea baby, if the Harrison twins had won a national championship i would have been pissed after they screwed MD.

They didn't screw Maryland. They were never going to Maryland. Marylands basketball program has been on life support for nearly a decade. Can't expect two of the best HS recruits int he country to go there when every other successful program is after them.

NPS says that cluster near the MLK memorial blooms earlier than most. They were already blooming on Saturday morning when I was down there. This weekend looks good. Maybe even by late Thursday if we get enough sunshine the next two days. NPS says we're now in 'puffy white' stage, so its close.

Not that it really matters, but there is no real stomach flu. It is actually a virus. Noro virus. But, it is awful no matter what it is called!

And if we're getting technical, the majority of the people who think they have the flu just have flu-like symptoms.

I got norovirus from my infant son on Dec 23 two Christmases ago.  We almost had to cancel Christmas.  Fortunately I'm a fast recoverer and was fine the next morning.

I'm recovering today, yesterday was a very long day

Last week my son, wife and I all had it.  My daughter was the little carrier monkey as many kids in her kindergarten had it.  I was wrecked for 24 hours and wasn't 100% until about 60-72 hours after symptoms started.  But my wife was fine after about 12 hours.

Yup, The little one was the carrier. 10 kids came down with it at daycare Friday. She never got sick. The hubby got sick Sunday night and then me Monday night. He is back to 100% today. I'm just recovering now, sore and trying to will myself to eat something
