Typhoon Tip
May very well observe a flurry of Atlantic activity beginning this week and continuing into the first half of September, ...pretty darn close to climate suggestion. But also there are machine products out there that have been flagging this 3-week period as particularly vulnerable to TC genesis. The region of 200mb vector potential has set up shop on schedule, and that region is set to migrate E and other sources, such as RP has been placing a strong positive genesis node in the Cape Verdi zones of the Atlantic. I posted this some pops ago but here it is again... Currently a 30/40 % zygote is situated around 7N or so, just NE of S/A, right where a very modest positive anomaly is centered .. This same anomaly region grows in the product to become the greatest NH positive anomaly region ...and that includes the west Pac! Looking toward across the Atlantic and into the Africa intra-continental region there are a number of TW on the rail system, poised to move across the basin and through the collocation of these positive indicators. Experimental forecast philosophy but a kind of frequency jolt may take place. Almost reminds me of 1995 (though there are no precursor analogs in discussion...just the end result of a season making up numbers in a hurry is all...) nutmegfriar
And many of us scramble to look for the definition of "collocation".

wxeyeNH
Interesting 18Z GFS run. If something develops it has it coming up the east coast. Long, long way out and will change but something finally to watch.
AvantHiatus
Waiting for Typhoon Tip to post the 18z GFS ensembles. There is some crazy potential with this one. Ironic that the longwave setup would decide to flip on a dime right on time for Hurricane Season.

AvantHiatus
Once again, 1/3 of the GFS ensembles are bending 96L west, some at 36-40N. Good thing it's in fantasy range however the pattern progression is interesting. The hudson bay low is completely gone by 180 hours, first time since late June. TalcottWx
Going to be tricky to see if it can slide towards Florida underneath that ridge as it builds into its north. Spaghetti plots have that happening or the ridge keeping it overseas altogether leading to recurve and lots of waves. Spaghetti all over the floor @0z.
