Are you talking May 1990, the freak snow event that dropped 6-10" NW of Milwaukee?

No, I meant May 1989, although 1990 was certainly an anomalous setup.  1989 was more impressive farther south with 850 mb temps (0C made it into AL/GA) and is more reminiscent of the 00z Euro prog in that regard.

. Since March 15th, buffalo has had 23 days colder than normal and 13 days warmer than normal.

Overall its been warmer then normal. The disparities over normal far outweighed the ones below normal. In terms of actual degrees. Overall March was so cold because of the first two weeks of it being Mid January type cold. This was posted on April 5th and its been relatively warm the last two weeks aside from 2 days. The month of April has also been .5 degrees warmer than average so far. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/getclimate.php?wfo=buf

Actually turned into a very nice spring day...had mid 60Fs by lunch, with the only rain early this morning (not much)...  Then sun cam out around 3 pm and the temp has taken off....72F now which is the warmest so far this year.

Yeah perfect day out there with little wind. 5th day we are in the 70s this year so far I believe. In for a reality check tomorrow.

The BUF F6 paints a different picture than what you're suggesting.  If you start with March 15 and add up the total daily departure since then, it comes out to -79.

Maybe its just been April then. Seeing as it has been .5 degrees above normal so far. Thanks for the detailed explanation though I was going more by just feel than actual numbers.

AVERAGE MONTHLY: 44.3 DPTR FM NORMAL: 0.5

Winter doesnt end here in the city of Buffalo until the ice boom gets removed as the city sits on the northeast shores of the lake. Last year, the boom was taken out on March 25. The latest time the boom has ever come out is May 3. That happened in 1971. According to International rules governing the operation of the ice boom, it must be opened by April 1, unless the eastern basin of Lake Erie is covered by more than 250 square miles of ice.

72° for a high today. Feels like a summer evening out there right now. Dewpoint came up to 60° a little while ago.

Only 0.02" of rain today. 0.05" at RAC.

Running a departure of +0.43° through today for the month.

Edit: Noticed this afternoon the leaves on the Willow trees really shot out in a very quick time. This mild, moist weather really wakes the plants up quickly.

Hit 74F...  Can't believe how nice of an evening it was.  Took a 15 mile bike round around town...people out all over the place.  Really getting the summer itch...can't wait until some consistent warmth gets in here for good...  Furnace has been off for 3 or 4 days now...so that is a start.  Dews plummeted on strong NW winds this evening.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. The second Half of march was decidedly colder than normal, but obviously the temps weren't the dame brutal ones as they were in winter. Buffalos departure from march 15 - april 20 was -2.2F.
