The state is notorious for plowing when they should not.  All season long they have come out when not necessary, scraping the pavement (I live on a state road).  All I can think is that there is some workers union component in there making this happen.  It is very disheartening knowing that the state always complains about their plowing budget and nonsense like this happens all season long.  Although today I have not seen a plow come by.

Yeah the state does this a lot...most times they are least removing the slush from the shoulder, but there are times I have seen the spark maker not moving a bit of snow...

I believe they replace the wear blades each storm, so if that's the case...may as well burn em...

Yeah they left the sideroads completely untouched. At the time I was pissed, but it is what it is.

I thought most towns had it in contracts with private operators that they don't plow unless there is greater than 2 inches

They do...but not all of them. I had one that would plow at 1 inch.

So when the kindergarten kids get dropped off by the school buses at 11:50 today..and the roads are snow/ice covered and

1) someone falls and gets hurt

2)the buses can't make it up the hills

3) a bus slides off the road.

and the town is sued by parent(s) for not making the roads safe..then what?

I wasn't saying don't do anything. Salting in combination with clearing sky's on march 31st would have been just fine.

That's also a doomsday scenario for an inch of snow, if the buses are that bad, the school district has its own issues

In all fairness, I would like to see what his area looks like today at around 5:00 so.  I know he's in a pretty shaded spot, but that may or may not matter.

Ermahgerd. A couple of inches of snow in CT at the end of March. Stop the presses.

I don't think I've ever complained about road conditions. If it's snowy or icy you just go slower. Sincere condolences to the soccer mom that can't go 70mph with her 4x4 SUV through the slush in the passing lane.

Best post in this thread, lol.

I'm sure he may have some patches left in his yard, but on the road, I highely doubt it. I think just salt would have done the trick just fine. Obviously this is pretty much a semantics argument lol but what else is there to do

Plow the pavement hamden.

They are plowing the shoulders oh my.

Meh...I have no dog in this fight, but it looks like he is at least into the slush in that pic.  Minimize refreeze, etc...  3" of snow equals a decent pile in the shoulder, that won't melt today...may as well clear it...

1) Who's walking on the street? They deserved to get hurt if that's the case.

2) Buses can make it up 1.5" of slush where tires go right to the pavement. Sounds like Tolland has no safety precautions if bus tires are bald.

3) Bald tires by poor oversight of Tolland school district will cause buses to slide.

1) Are the buses driving up onto lawns, flowerbeds, and driveways to let the kids off..or do the kids get off on the streets?

2)Cars were stuck on gentle inclines all over the tri state this morning

3) The bus companies that own the majority of the towns and cities school buses are located in Kansas and Missouri..and are responsible for contracting repairs, etc..
