Disc
I posted these in the MA forum, but I'll post them here too. Very thunderstorm-like.
GaffneyPeach
Graupel looks/feels like styrofoam pellets. Been around the Upstate off and on all day. Local news posted a story explaining what it was. I call it "Fool's Snow". :/
10below
Good Lord is it ever snowing hard in Boone right now.
FLweather
Light flurries for the last 30 mins or so now the sun trying to come out.
superjames1992
There's a beastly looking convective shower about to hit the Greensboro area. Too bad it's likely going to be rain. The skies are getting dark ahead of it and it looks similar to a thunderstorm would look in the summer.
10below
Never seen anything like this. Heavy rain with Huge snowflakes mixed in.
Scooter
Wow! Just looked outside and we have mostly snow/rain mix right now with a couple of flashes of lightning and thunder.
superjames1992
Well, actually it has started out as a light RN/SN mix. We'll see where it goes from here.

Scooter
That'll do it! It was fun will it lasted. But, does that mean it'll snow again in 9 days, or does the lightning cancel the thunder out!
CAD_Wedge_NC
Just had a heavy snow squall come through here. Skies turned dark and we had a 15 minute burst of heavy wind-blown snow. Temp went from 45 degrees to 40 in less than 5 minutes. Sun is coming back out now.
10below
roads gonna be a problem in the morning?
superjames1992
Heavy slop. Interesting P-type.
superjames1992
roads gonna be a problem in the morning? I guess the bridges could be a little icy. It is going to get down into the mid-20s tonight, but I would suspect that the roads (except elevated roads/bridges) have enough heat built up in them from days of heat and full March sun to avoid refreezing. Maybe I'll be wrong, though. BTW, the heavy slop just ended. Barring a miracle, it's time to cancel winter.
gritsnc
Yep, that's definitely graupel, Nic. Neat! I wish I had gotten a better picture but I was so excited and about took our fence down trying to jump over it (we have a temporary fence around the porch to keep the dogs out of the mud. lol). KChuck
Flash grauple storm. that lasted all of a few minutes and was gone. Looked very weird. Saw a grauple storm several years ago here in Kville that coated the ground.
tazaroo
finally got my rain/snow slop. Another day with snow. Not the best winter ever but good overall.

GaWx
Taking my daily walk in mid-Jan type temperatures low 40's and plenty of wind here north of ATL. Got my ski cap on. Ahhh. It feels so good! Winter not over just yet. This is the winter that keeps on giving into spring. :)

Solak
NicInNC, Brad Panovich just posted this on Facebook about graupel. Thought you'd be interested. It's from a blog last year. http://wxbrad.com/what-is-graupel/

Saw a grauple storm several years ago here in Kville that coated the ground. I remember a pretty intense (though short-lived) graupel storm in 2010 (I think). I think it was in March during the day with temperatures in the 40s or something. It was neat.
KChuck
I remember a pretty intense (though short-lived) graupel storm in 2010 (I think). I think it was in March during the day with temperatures in the 40s or something. It was neat. I believe that is the one I am thinking of. Never saw it before that day...came down hard. Got on the blog and asked about it and of course the fine people here were more than happy to kindly educate me, and for that I am grateful. Wife did not remember it and said it was sleeting outside. I told her no. She wound up going outside to check it out before it was gone and said she never saw anything like it. From what I recall of the last occurance, styrofoam is as good an analogy as I could hope to come up with.

UpstateSnow
Got a dusting tonight in Tryon, NC. Snow doesn't usually make it this far with NW events, but tonight over performed. Snowed pretty good for about 2 hours. Just flurries now.
