Strong high is keeping subsidence strong to the north today...but that same high will make it putrid tomorrow and especially Thursday up there...Maine will probably be a CAD nightmare on Thursday.

Yup...just enough low level dry air/subsidence up here for partial sunshine. That's a nice inversion around H9. Throw in some moisture and upslope east flow below that and you get today's disaster down there.

The next week kind of has that more clouds than sun kind of look to it.

Lots of cold pool days with maybe aftn clouds into Wed it seems. Better than onshore flow though. If the euro is right, DC area is tickling 90 Thursday with SE winds here and probably debris clouds or shwrs.

Thursday looks rather lousy in terms of sensible wx. Yeah maybe it gets warmer, but has the look of a damp day. Yay.

Probably self-destructive sunshine under that cold ULL early next week too. The type of day where it gets to 58F and then you have a 48F shower...maybe a few graupel pellets on the mountain tops like WaWa or Monadnock.

Granted, that is better than today's disaster and tomorrow. Still don't see any type of real warmth in here though going forward. We need to flush that decaying block east of Hudson Bay.

Yep, you know how it goes, if that H5 ridge is anywhere west of you this time of year, forget warmth.

I just don't understand all the negativity . No it's not true summer, but a sunny weekend with temps 65-70 inland and 60-65 coast will be beautiful. Why do some try to make it like the pattern going forward is bad

I mentioned a couple of times about a nice few days...but we see the forest through the trees too. I'm just not a fan of the pattern going forward. Of course we'll have some mild days mixed in and/or DSD days...but until we get rid of the AK ridge, trough over NF, and get a big trough pushing into the Plains...it's not a good pattern for warmth.

Some signs this could change after mid month, but we've seen that before. We'll have to wait a week on that to see how it looks.

How did DTs big pattern change make out?

The pattern going forward is kind of crappy...I don't think anyone is being "negative" just to be that way. Just saying it how it is.

I think there were already several posts saying how the weekend could be decent. Its ok to have posts that say the weather is also going to be crappy. We get a lot of this junk in spring...hope we get enough faux-warmth days in a cruddy pattern to offset the disasters.

Well again it's not a great pattern, but we've seen far worse in May. April ended up normal and we had plenty of sunny mild days. Just because today and tomorrow were bad doesn't mean it's been or will be a bad stretch. I'll choose to dwell on the beautiful weekend and warmth of Thursday

What planet are you on? Look at the last 15 days.

by the time we start hitting May, 55-65 degree days aren't so dandy anymore. granted..better than the abomination of early this week. wake me up when its 70's

Agreed. Pools begin opening up in about 2 weeks. That looks like a joke at the moment. May kind of snuck up on us it feels like. Want too see more prolonged warmth and good wx
