ORH_wxman
They shut down 84 from Willington thru Tolland overnight due to ice so they could salt/ sand. Well they shut down your area when there is a 20 minute snow squall, so that doesn't mean much. I'm just going on what I see from obs though....you realy want to have those 28/28 type obs with heavy snow to get the March '05 type flash freezes...or 12/9/05 in E MA. This was pretty impressive for mid April though.
weatherwiz
Had to call out Wankum on twitter. Stupid ground is too warm argument. Why do people always say that? There is validity to it but it depends on how you state it. The ground can certainly be too warm for snow to stick, as long as the precip rates are on the lighter side...if you have moderate to heavy snowfall rates than the snow is going to stick. Damage In Tolland
What is wrong with that road? I honestly don't know. I know they're doing some local studies on it..there's hills from here up to Union..but all the trouble is from exit 69-67 as you go from Willington into Tolland. It's almost like some sort of weird phenomenon..And there's something to it with the countless road issues and accidents in that stretch Tolland Alert @TollandAlert 5h FINAL I84 UPDATE: Eastbound between exits 68 & 69 now completely re-open. 1 lane east & west still closed between exits 67 & 68 for MVA. Ginx snewx
You love digging for these old posts to bump. Those posts were from a week ago and I think the context of that exchange was lost. Anyhow...I liked the idea of some snow/IP here, but always felt PF/Mitch were favored which turned out to be the case. 1" in mid April is really NBD here, but it was cool to get it 6hrs after being 60F/60F. we kid we laugh we remember but we never forget the bumpathons of old by you

SJonesWX
I-495 FTL. No less than 6 accidents from Bay Rd in Taunton to Rt 140 in Mansfield. Got the hell off I-495 at I-95 as it was still backed up going N on I-495 thru Foxboro/Wrentham. I guess people became dumb and forgot how to drive in this stuff. some roads actually got pretty icy this morning. dumb or not, if you went out of the travel lane just a hair, that slush and ice was a killer. i saw several accidents around arlington and lexington Lol like burglars care, but I guess so, seems to me not telling them would be better. Man you live in a tough hood PF this is the surprise I was talking about last night Snow reports from NWS. Enosburg Falls: 8", Montgomery 6.3, Westford 5.8, S. Cambridge & Jeffersonville 5.5, Salisbury 5.4, S. #BTV 2.8. burglars actually do care. if they see ADT signs, they will pick a house that doesn't have a sign
ORH_wxman
Warren,Ct 3 inches I think rpm nam did excellent, the amount of sleet prevented the 1-3 but not in some areas. I think they were considerably too bullish. They were showing widespread 2-4"...that certainly didn't occur. They had too much L.E. after 06z....in the 0.25-0.30" range for example for ORH down to IJD and the actual was more like 0.15". I think it is plenty fair to say the Euro wasn't bullish enough on frozen....but I wouldn't annoint the NAM/RPM with a steller job because another model failed on the other end of the spectrum. I actually think the 12Z and 18z GFS might have been one of the better models in the short term yesterday. It was basically a compromise and I think that seemed to work out well. Typhoon Tip
.5" of cement now softening under high April sun doesn't, in my mind, qualify as anything other than a cold smack in the face; not enough to be deemed an "event" -- more at nuisance. An event should be north of 3", ubiquitously distributed, and more obviously n cyclonic wall attributed. But that's just my arty subjective opinion. By the way ... The person that lost their life on I495 this morning due to flash ice over ... prooooobably would be less inclined to agree with me on that -- understood. However, the ever present force of Darwinism collecting souls at 75mph over a skating rink isn't necessarily a weather event, either. Any "eventfulness" should be impressed by the summer to winter shift inside a single diurnal interval of time. For synoptic scale affairs that's pretty fantastic for our area of the country. Having said that ... We have experienced even greater short duration changes during back doors. I've seen 35F losses inside of an hour! But these are more meso-beta scaled. In meteorology it is easier to find extremer variances across smaller domain spaces -- like one town getting 3" of hail while the next town over is sunny. radarman
burglars actually do care. if they see ADT signs, they will pick a house that doesn't have a sign I saw those signs on the Police Stations in Cape Town. I chuckled but it's a really scary place. Wow, Royalston had 3.5"? They must have snuck into the band over the CT valley in MA. Seemed to be a little max on the east side of the Pioneer valley, Ludlow, Granby, Belchertown all over 2" with the higher terrain in Pelham and N. Quabbin 3"+. I suppose it makes sense as the downsloping effect on NW flow is partially or entirely negated by the time it has crossed the valley and starts to rise again, but in this particular case it seemed like there was an area of enhancement extending far to the south that sort of trained up through here. It does not take much time for a good thief to know whether a place is alarmed or not, regardless of signage.
CapturedNature
Some spots still have 30 OTG, thats sick. Check out johndee.com Northwwods cams I've always liked the UP for snow. That being said, places 6-8 hours north of us have that much on the ground in Quebec. Even parts of northern Maine (longer drive) have 20-24" OTG. I'm always amazed at how well the Gaspe or North Shore (of the St Lawrence) does. They have snow well into May and it's not that far away when you think about it. I've always wondered why someone would give free advertising to any company. People do it all the time with brand t-shirts. In the case of the ADT sign, isn't that like telling the burglar what system you have so he can know how to defeat it? I always feel lucky that we're 2 hours from Cape Beaches in summer and 2 hours from big mountain skiing in winter. There's not too many places that can boast about that. We are lucky indeed! I look for clothing that doesn't have logos on them. Cars are a little different. You need to be able to identify make an model and usually the logo is pretty small. I wouldn't buy a truck that had a huge 'FORD' or 'DODGE' enblazened on it. That's like a mobile billboard that I'm not being paid for.
