Chinook
I made an archive of heavy snow events using the images from CIPS/St Louis University. I picked out all of the 18" events that I could find in the archive. I filtered out the obvious localized 18" events in the NY snow belts, Michigan Upper Peninsula snow belt, and San Juan Mountains. I also filtered out any very localized 18" spots in mountainous regions. CIPS made these images with the daily snowfall information directly from the NWS Co-op reports and filtered it, summed it over 72 hours. The maps do not cover the West Coast. http://www.greatlake...now_events.html I have found that the winter of 1995-1996 was the most snowy in terms of the number of individual events that I found. Chinook
Thanks for the encouragement. I have added several storms in 1989 and 1990. I added 3/6/89 for the storm total of 15" in Arkansas. I figure that counts as nearly Arkansas' greatest snow event. 4/29/89 is the latest storm in any April month I have in the archive. I have declared 1980-81 as "the year the atmosphere forgot how to make snow." 1990-91 also has very few events.

Chinook
I updated storms from 1985-86. I had completely forgotten about that year till yesterday. Nice storm on December 1, 1985-- there was a very negatively tilted trough in Minnesota and Wisconsin, made 18" snow amounts in MN, WI and the U.P. I have dubbed the midwest snowstorm of October 29-November 3, 1991 as "The Perfect Snowstorm" as it occurred at the same time as "The Perfect Storm." Absolute Humidity
Nice work but you forgot the legendary Boxing Day Blizzard of Dec 25-27 2010.
Chinook
I will get that 2010 storm added pretty soon. It takes a while to go through an entire year and make sure I got everything. I am also going to check 1999-2000 to see if there are more 18" storms in that year. I have found one 18" storm in the month of September. See my entry for September 30, 1985 (snow actually occurred on the 27th or 28th) in Nebraska.
