Chinook
I made an archive of heavy snow events using the images from CIPS/St Louis University. I picked out all of the 18" events that I could find in the archive. I filtered out the obvious localized 18" events in the NY snow belts, Michigan Upper Peninsula snow belt, and San Juan Mountains. CIPS made these images with the daily snowfall information directly from the NWS Co-op reports and filtered it, summed it over 72 hours. The maps do not cover the West Coast. http://www.greatlakes.salsite.com/Eighteen_inch_snow_events.html I have found that the winter of 1995-1996 was the most snowy in terms of the number of individual events that I found.
