Obviously I am new, but can you respectfully tell me why this would be the case?

This is a regional weather forum, right? We want to talk about DC area weather; we just want to have a bit of fun while we are doing it. The thread hasn't been up long enough for anyone to see how we really operate.

And we aren't an exclusive club, anyone is welcome.

Is that something that really wouldn't normally be allowed? It seems pretty harmless.

Eh, just what the MA forum needs, another clique (all cliques claim not to be cliques).

And can you really be "snow bros" here if that is tied to your identity within the cwg threads? Can you really do a lift and shift with your clique? Kind of like not being able to have license plates from two different states on your car.

This forum has a bit of an elitist disease.. I won't pretend I'm not part of it, but I don't get as bent out of shape as some people.  I don't see any issue with having a thread that's more newer enthusiast/fun focused.  If people don't like it they don't have to enter it.  Not like the front page doesn't have threads that are half a month old on it anyway.  It's a fun group.. I think in the end long timers here would enjoy a lot of the "snowbro" stuff anyway.

I joined today and everyone over on WaPo totally scared me off of commenting, which is part of why this thread was created.

Hopefully we can get some good conversation going, learn things, be able to ask questions about things we don't know and get good answers, have some fun, and maybe indoctrinate some long timers in to the Snow Bro way.

We'll see... This isn't only for CWG snow bros. We encourage other lurkers who might otherwise be shunned to join us.

I don't mind it... it's ok to be a wx weenie without knowing every single aspect of the science. Weenies need a place to be weenies, and if this is it and the mods don't have to interfere or moderate the "OMG'z SNOW IMBY" posts in the other discussion threads than that's likely a good thing.

That being said, the "science" weather is addictive.

We're tough on newbies here in general. Honestly.. not sure why anyone would have a problem with the idea of the thread though.  It probably partly means the questions many long-timers might get annoyed with won't end up in the main thread etc.

Some of us are happy to answer questions and such as well.  One issue with the CWG commenting system is it's very time sensitive based on how long the post is at top.  After that, conversation usually trails off or goes to a new thread.  So.. again, I'm totally fine with this idea.

Can Tenman and hosj III be sent over to the cwg threads as a trade for the sno bros?

Uh, a snow bro is anyone who really loves the snow. And fun.  We really aren't discriminatory. Do you super love snow? And fun?

Then you are totally a snow bro! Here, there, anywhere!

Come out to the Snow Bro Happy Hour at Science Club Friday the 28th. Several of the CWG meteorologists will be there, and any and all self proclaimed Snow Bros will be there. It is going to be a ton of fun.

Also, you can totally have license plates from two different states on your car. Head in to Old Town. You will see Taxis with both DC and Virginia plates on them driving around all over the place. And by "you" I mean taxi drivers, I'm assuming that not everyone can just register their car in both DC and Virginia.

In between events we should be easy going. Banter away

This thread was actually created to have a place where we could discuss storms without interfering with old-time AmWx members (in addition to other banter). People can have bad analysis in this thread without being told to die in a hole, I hope.

Ian, most snow bros are spring bros by the time April comes around. No worries there! :)

Everyone is shunned here outside of admins, red taggers, yellow taggers, the SFMAWCOT Club, and the few randoms that buy Kocin's giant book and take a crack at interpreting 500mb charts in disco threads.

This might be the year we bring snow back to April. It used to happen long long ago.

When did the snowbro thing pop up? I missed the beginning of it somehow I think..

Also, this... any of you "snowbros" severe wx bros? Hurricane bros?

I am. I'm totally an extreme/outside of the norm weather bro.

The derecho was pretty much my favorite thing ever, even though I had to go find the only cafe open in my neighborhood because it was about 137º out and I needed air conditioning. I'm pretty sure I spent the next two months reading every single thing that I could find about derechos.

I hate snow, a lot, and I'm no fun at all.

And when I lived in Old Town I never saw any of that crap.

Obviously, I don't post much here.  But as a avid voracious reader for 12+ years (between here and the previous forum), I think it's great to have some added levity.  While it's been a good Winter for snow (way above average imby), albeit frustrating at times, think we're all suffering from some cabin fever and the added good humor is a welcome stimulus.  Now, if we can just get the phasing locked in for next week (I jest, well....  sort of).....

You're welcome here! Please don't go back to lurking. We value your analysis!

A troll called user EF-6 a "Sociopathic Snow Bro," so he changed his name to that and that's how it caught on!
