MN Transplant
Already picked up 0.2" from it so far (as of 10:15am). Lots of columns and needles with the occasional dendrite mixed in then it goes to 80% dendrites as a heavier band moves through. Primarily needles here. The pine trees are awesome, the wind or a squirrel starts a cascade of snow and the whole tree explodes into white. I had seen it before in windier conditions, but in solitary, it is really cool to watch.
EastCoast NPZ
Just to put this in perspective...... From March last year until now, I've had over 68" IMBY, more than which fell from Dec 2009 - Dec 2010. Add in the best spring in years, a tolerable summer, and a beautiful fall, this 13 month stretch of weather is likely the best in my lifetime. donsutherland1
True that, but LWX spanked them on this one...they held firm for the most part and CWG kept adjusting. That first map of 1 to 4" was lolz. That being said, CWG DID come around in the end and caught up. Sometimes forecasts don't always work out. I enjoy reading CWG. It's a shame there's nothing like CWG in the NY Metro Area. The NYT weather coverage is not impressive to say the least. Something like CWG would add a lot of value. NWS Upton is outstanding, of course.
StudentOfClimatology
You must have been under some microscale band or something.. I don't remember seeing an official observation in DC within 5 inches of that number.I think the sleet holding off until sunrise, living on a hill, and sitting under heavy returns are the three culprits. The pics speak for themselves, an incredible storm. 2/13 beats this one by a long shot. http://catchmypicture.com/f/A2TSTJ/800.jpg

Crazy good winter this year. I'm really rooting for a measureable event in April. That would give us a 5-month long snow season, and be only 6 months until we can look forward to doing it all over again.

That would give us a 5-month long snow season, and be only 6 months until we can look forward to doing it all over again. I would take one more. I only need 3 inches for second snowiest season ever in my life. That alone really puts this winter into perspective.
CoastalWx
I guess a good way of looking at it, is nice payback from that awful early March bust last year.
I-83 BLIZZARD
LWX should have left the 2-4" up by the PA line... didn't get 4-6" at my house Agree. I had 3.2 today for a final. Up near my son's bus stop down the road it looked closer to 4 but did not care to attempt to measure. Further to the west of here there were some reports of over 4 early this morning in parts of Adams and Franklin. Would not be surprised to see some of those areas that had the early bands report back with 5 inch totals north of the Mason Dixon. Banding/Ratios for the win. Random Chaos
Finally made it outside to do measurements. I'm a few miles from Annapolis, toward the northeast. 1-4" over most of the yard, many bare spots from the wind. Many drifts to 1.5 feet. One big drift that I measured at 40" deep near the edge, couldn't get to the middle to measure that. Yes, 40".

WxUSAF
Big kudos to LWX as well as WPC with this event. WPC was bullish on this days ahead of time (and I was pretty shocked by how bullish) and nailed it.
HighStakes
Steady light snow for last couple hours. May have added .5 to the total. 4 inches on driveway completely melted. Weird to have powdery snow falling and accumulating in shades areas and melting snow on paved surfaces facing the sun.
