TSG
Well I've been a lurker for a while now and decided it was time. Sfc temps seem to be holding above predicted in the DC area (I call Falls Church home) so I can see why you guys are getting nervous on wasted qpf. But out here in Harrisonburg it is dropping fast. Falls Church - 48 F Hburg - 33 F That seems like a huge difference to me. We are supposed to still be above 40 here according to forecasts, but we hit the predicted low an hour ago maybe more. yoda
DCA/IAD 0.55" or so.....0.25" contour north of M/D line Nice... looks GFSesque then on QPF... but as you rightly mentioned over and over... how much QPF actually falls as snow and accumulates? nj2va
hopefully the weatherbell guys are up...they get higher res maps than I do Yeah, ~0.55". We're in the 0.5" contour but 0.6" text markings for IAD, DC, southern Ffx county, and southern PG County. I think they round up with those text markings. yoda
So 2-4/3-5 sounds right now IMO... IF everything stays where its at now and IF the snow accumulates after 11pm/midnight
yoda
There is too much precip before 6z on both the euro and GFS....I wonder how much we waste.... I would guess that depends on how much evap cooling we can get... perhaps snow accums on decks and grass by 10?
nj2va
For reference, the 00z Euro says I should be at 40 degrees right now...I'm at 46. Euro has us at 36 at 8pm tomorrow and 30 and 2am. I'm a bit worried about surface temps running warmer even after 11 or midnight if the Euro is running too cold.

Thats interesting, because temps in the valley are currently about 5-6 degrees below forecast. Supposed to be 40 here in Harrisonburg as well and its currently 34. Anyone got an explanation for this? I dont think the EURO runs too cold very often...its usually on the warmer end of guidance.
