We have a flizzard taking place in N. Winston right now. Interesting.......I've noticed the we have some moisture building to our southwest as well.

Noticed that as well and its expanding on top of that. If it holds together some places in the triad and va border might be able to get a good solid dusting of less than a inch. Possibly more if the precip expands and remains mostly sleet/snow.

For today through tonight along the 85 corridor triad and north should be about the same as now. Periods of light sleet/snow/freezing rain. Maybe more heavier precip expanding later today. Not sure why NWS is allowing the WWA to expire at noon but will most likely be extended to cover tonight as well.

If the HRRR is right than precip coverage and rates will increase later this afternoon into tonight. If it is right some places along near the triad va border may see 1-3"

Starting to get some reading around 26 to 27 along the escarpment in Avery County.

WUNE Grandmother Mountain is 26 degrees where Grandfather Mountain Summit 1800' higher is 35 degrees.

Hawksnest is 25 degrees

Also noticed several 24 degree readings in Alleghany County and a 24 degree reading at WUNL at Sauratown Mountain north of King.

Winter Weather Advisories have been extended:

PERSON-GRANVILLE-VANCE-FORSYTH-GUILFORD-ALAMANCE-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...ROXBORO...OXFORD...BUTNER...CREEDMOOR...
HENDERSON...WINSTON-SALEM...GREENSBORO...HIGH POINT...
BURLINGTON...GRAHAM
1130 AM EDT MON MAR 17 2014

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY EXTENDED UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS
EVENING...

* LOCATIONS...INCLUDE MUCH OF THE NORTHERN PIEDMONT...MAINLY ALONG
AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 85 CORRIDOR.

* HAZARD TYPES...INCLUDE A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN ALONG WITH SOME
SLEET AND SNOW...WITH MOST OF THE PRECIPITATION FALLING AS
FREEZING RAIN.

* ACCUMULATIONS...OF FREEZING RAIN WILL RANGE AROUND OR LESS THAN
A TENTH OF AN INCH OF GLAZING...MAINLY ON ELEVATED SURFACES.
SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS WILL TYPICALLY BE ON THE ORDER OF A
DUSTING BUT COULD REACH A HALF INCH IN SPOTS. THE GREATEST SNOW
AND SLEET ACCUMULATION WILL FALL ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF
FORSYTH... GUILFORD...ALAMANCE AND PERSON COUNTIES.

* TIMING...PERIODS OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL CONTINUE INTO THE
EARLY EVENING HOURS WITH THE STEADIEST PRECIPITATION FALLING
THROUGH MID AFTERNOON.

* WINDS...WILL BE FROM THE NORTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS
UP TO 20 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 20S TO NEAR 30 WILL HOLD STEADY
THROUGH MID AFTERNOON AND THEN RISE SLIGHTLY BUT REMAIN AT OR
BELOW FREEZING THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS...PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN WILL RESULT IN GLAZE OF ICE
ON ELEVATED SURFACES. THE SLEET AND SNOW THAT FALLS MAY RESULT
IN MINOR ACCUMULATIONS AND COMBINED WITH THE FREEZING RAIN WILL PRODUCE
LOCALLY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS...ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES.
WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES ARE NOT EXPECTED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED BECAUSE PERIODS OF
WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL CREATE LOCALLY HAZARDOUS DRIVING
CONDITIONS. MOTORISTS IN THE ADVISORY AREA ARE URGED TO SLOW DOWN
AND LEAVE PLENTY OF FOLLOWING DISTANCE...ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES WHERE ICE ACCUMULATION IS MORE LIKELY.
