THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN AND NORTH
CENTRAL NEW YORK.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THE CHANCE FOR WIDESPREAD HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS LOW.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

A STORM SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO MOVE OUT OF THE OHIO OR TENNESSEE
VALLEY ON MONDAY AND LIFT ACROSS OUR REGION MONDAY NIGHT AND
TUESDAY. WHILE CONFIDENCE IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH AT THIS POINT TO
FORECAST THE EXACT PRECIPITATION TYPE WITH THIS STORM...IT IS
WORTH HIGHLIGHTING THAT AN EQUAL POTENTIAL EXISTS THAT THE STORM
WILL LIKELY PRODUCE A SOAKING HALF TO ONE INCH RAIN OR A HEAVY WET
LATE SEASON ACCUMULATING SNOW.

12z GFS shows a fairly significant swing to the West.  It puts all of NY state firmly in the warm sector.  Overall the latest run is a less amplified solution.  Heres hoping things trend back East and ramp up!

...CONTINUED COLD AND SNOWY...

THE MONTH OF MARCH CONTINUED THIS WINTERS THEME OF SNOW AND ABUNDANT
COLD DAYS ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK. THE OVERALL
PATTERN ALOFT OF A RIDGE IN THE WESTERN U.S. AND TROUGH OVER THE
EAST PROMOTED A MONTH WHOSE MEAN TEMPERATURE WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL.
SEVERAL SYNOPTIC SNOW STORMS...WHICH WHEN COMBINED WITH MINOR LAKE
EFFECT SNOW EVENTS...BROUGHT WELL ABOVE NORMAL MARCH SNOW.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE THIS MONTH WAS 26.7F WHICH IS THE 8TH
COLDEST MONTH OF MARCH ON RECORD. THERE WERE 24 DAYS THIS MONTH THAT
AVERAGED BELOW NORMAL...AND ONE RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE TIED. ON THE
MORNING OF MARCH 4TH THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO -3F...TYING WITH
1943 FOR THE COLDEST FOR THE DATE. THERE WERE 7 DAYS THAT RECORDED
SINGLE DIGIT OR COLDER LOWS WHICH IS 5 MORE THAN THE NORMAL FOR
MARCH. BROADENING TO THE ENTIRE WINTER SEASON THERE WERE 38 DAYS
WITH SINGLE DIGIT OR COLDER LOWS WHICH IS THE GREATEST NUMBER OF
DAYS WITH SUCH MEASUREMENT SINCE RECORDS MOVED TO THE AIRPORT IN
1943...AND 4TH GREATEST ALL-TIME. THERE WERE TWO DAYS THIS MONTH
THAT DROPPED BELOW ZERO...A FEAT THAT HAS ONLY OCCURRED 6 TIMES IN
MARCH SINCE 1871.

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH AVERAGED JUST BELOW NORMAL WITH
2.55 INCHES RECORDED. THERE WERE 18 DAYS OF MEASURABLE
PRECIPITATION...A BIT ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST CALENDAR DAY OF
PRECIPITATION OCCURRED ON THE 12TH WHEN A NEW DAILY RECORD OF 0.95
INCHES WAS SET. MUCH OF THE PRECIPITATION RECORDED THIS MONTH FELL AS
SNOW.

SNOWFALL FOR MARCH WAS ABOUT DOUBLE THAT OF NORMAL...WITH 24.5
INCHES MEASURED. THIS PLACES MARCH TIED FOR 9TH GREATEST SNOWFALL. A
NEW DAILY RECORD WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE 12TH WHEN 13.8 INCHES OF
SNOW WAS RECORDED. THIS TOTAL WAS ALSO THE GREATEST CALENDAR DAY
SNOW OF THE WINTER SEASON.

A COLD FRONT CROSSED WESTERN NEW YORK LATE ON THE 1ST AND SENT THE
REGION BACK INTO GRIP OF WINTER...WITH LIGHT SNOW AND FRIGID
TEMPERATURES. HIGHS ON THE 2ND THROUGH 4TH ONLY MANAGED TO RISE INTO
THE TEENS...ABOUT 20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. TEMPERATURES WOULD REMAIN
BELOW NORMAL UNTIL DAY 10 OF THE MONTH WHEN WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST
EARLY TASTE OF SPRING. A STALLING AND WEAKENING COLD
FRONT...COMBINED WITH THE INCREASING EFFECTS OF DAYTIME HEATING
BROUGHT HIGHS INTO THE LOW 50S ON TUESDAY THE 11TH. ON TUESDAY NIGHT
AND WEDNESDAY A STRONG LATE WINTER SNOWSTORM DEVELOPED...ONE THAT
BROUGHT BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK. THIS SYSTEM
DUMPED A FOOT PLUS OF SNOW ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK AND STRONG WINDS
BROUGHT FREQUENT WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. BEHIND THIS SYSTEM A TYPICAL
ROLLER COASTER OF TEMPERATURES OCCURRED THROUGH THE END OF THE
MONTH...THOUGH THE NUMBER OF BELOW NORMAL DAYS OUTWEIGHED THE ABOVE
NORMAL DAYS ABOUT 3 TO 1. A STORM SYSTEM ON THE EVENING OF THE 29TH
TO THE MORNING OF THE 30TH BROUGHT A HEAVY WET SNOW ACROSS WESTERN
NEW YORK. TOTALS...SOMEWHAT HIGHER ACROSS HIGHER TERRAIN AVERAGED 4
TO 8 INCHES ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK...AND GREATER TOTALS OF NEAR A
FOOT NEAR THE ROCHESTER AREA.

SUNSHINE THIS MONTH AVERAGED 54 PERCENT...WHICH IS 8 PERCENT MORE
THAN NORMAL. THERE WERE 15 MOSTLY SUNNY DAYS CONTRIBUTING TO THE
ABOVE NORMAL SUNSHINE. WINDS WERE GENERALLY TAME THIS MONTH WITH THE
STRONGEST GUST OCCURRING DURING THE LATE EVENING HOURS OF THE 14TH
WHEN A GUST CAME DOWN AT 51 MPH ACROSS THE AIRFIELD. LAKE ERIE
REMAINED FROZEN OVER THE EASTERN END OF THE LAKE.

IN ALL ANOTHER COLD MONTH WITH FREQUENT SNOWS.
