WeatherBox
What: WeatherBox Tactical Weather Support SoftwareWhen: We hope to launch WeatherBox before the end of March.Watch the version 1.0 video tour on our forum here: http://weatherbox.proboards.com/thre...rbox-version-1The subscription for the data flow will only be $9.99/month, with first 14 days free and can cancel during trial period. There will be no cost for the software itself. There are too many features to list here, but one of the best features is the timeliness of the data. We have timed local radar images arriving 30-60 seconds faster than the other major software packages, as well as full size 1km resolution visible satellite imagery. Just watch the video to see what it's all about. It will turn your PC into a professional-grade meteorological workstation. In addition to what you see in the users guide video, we will also have a very special feature called Time Machine (Coming soon). With Time Machine, you'll be able to set the date of your WeatherBox to a past date (We started archiving early this year, but will continue to accumulate with time). All the data you normally view in real-time will be available from the archive. With the click of the a button, your WeatherBox will populate with full 1km visible satellite, IR, WV, local and national mosaic radar, warnings, observations, VWP's and storm attributes from the chosen date. Time Machine will be a GREAT TOOL for learning about past events, or just to have fun loading up an interesting weather day. A WeatherBox including time machine will be $14.99/month.Finally, we will also be adding a model page that will be accessible to subscribers. Just like our real-time data...we expect the model output to be produced lightning fast so WeatherBox subscribers will always have the first look at the new model output.Join the forum to keep up with latest news, including actual release date. http://weatherbox.proboards.com/ We hope to see you there! Jim Marusak
looking at the hardware requirements, that's a lot of ram, and from what I can see, you'll need to be running 64-bit windows to run it (32-bit only can take up to 4gb maximum). given that being the case, have you optimized the program for 64-bit windows? and on top of that, what is it's support for multi-core processors? thanks. WeatherBox
The code has been built to be compatible for any CPU, including 64-bit Windows and multi-core processors. We continue to work to optimize the code and get the maximum performance from whatever hardware is being used. We recommend 4gb of RAM, only because that allows for the longest loops at full zoom. However, out of the box it'll be using about 1.5 GB. The main consideration is how many images you load in your loops. So it should work on 32 bit machines with 4 GB of RAM installed. WeatherBox
Just wanted to let everyone know that our local radar data is now extremely fast (beginning with version 1.1.0.2).I have tested many of the top radar apps, websites and PC clients. WeatherBox, along with WeatherTap, consistently beat everyone else (I have not tested every piece of software, but most). Both update within 1 second of each other. The only difference is you must keep hitting refresh with WeatherTap while WeatherBox just displays it immediately when available. If data timeliness is important to you, then WeatherBox may be the answer. I know personally that when severe weather strikes I can't wait for that new radar image. Also, we hope to have a mobile version next Spring. This migration to a cross-platform WeatherBox will also mean a more responsive, smooth UI, (for example, zooming in and out without waiting). On another note, we are hoping to get a "non credit card" free subscription available at some point. I know it's a pain to have to subscribe then cancel, but it's just the system we are using for now. The nice thing is, you get a reminder email before your trial expires, at which time you can easily cancel if you wish. So if you are like me, and are afraid of "forgetting" to cancel the trial, have no fear. There are many more updates and enhancements down the road, so stick with us!
