chietanen
Outside of our area, but this was posted in the Upstate forum and I thought it was worth sharing. Check out the effect the cold lake is having on temperatures (this was yesterday). Basically a 30 degree difference between the Buffalo Coast Guard station and the Airport. That's a distance of less than 10 miles!

Check out the effect the cold lake is having on temperatures (this was yesterday). Basically a 30 degree difference between the Buffalo Coast Guard station and the Airport. That's a distance of less than 10 miles! That rather impressive. It will be interesting to see what falls frozen and what it sticks too. I can't imagine roads being an issue, but trees and cars should get some stickage.

Animal
Latest afternoon Upton NWS discussion is not really very positive for any late season snow tonight. Odds were slim to start. Best

snywx
Upton seems to be biting now.. STRONG COLD ADVECTION WILL ALSO ALLOW FOR THE TRANSITION OVER TOSOME WET SNOW THIS EVENING. THE BEST CHANCE FOR THIS TO OCCURWILL BE IN THE NW SUBURBS WHERE A COATING TO AN INCH OF SNOW WILLBE POSSIBLE. THE TIMING OF THE CHANGEOVER WILL BE CRITICAL AS TOTHE AMOUNTS. SHOULD THIS TRANSITION OCCUR EARLIER THAN FORECAST...THERE COULD BE AS MUCH AS 2 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOWFALL. THE CHANGEOVERWILL FIRST HAPPEN ACROSS ORANGE COUNTY IN NEW YORK AND PASSAICCOUNTY NJ AROUND 8 PM. A COATING ACROSS EASTERN AREAS WHILEUNLIKELY...IS STILL A POSSIBILITY. eduggs
Mostly snow in Albany now. 35.8F with light, non-accumulating snow. Sleet preceded for about a half hour. Frozen precip should start mixing in the far NW areas in the next hour or two I would estimate.
West Point, NY
Elevation means a kot this time of year
chietanen
Elevation means a kot this time of year Agreed. Not expecting more than a dusting here in the valley. The one advantage we do have, compared to Western and Central NY, is timing.
eduggs
34.5F at 250ft. Higher elevations around here are at or below freezing. If the precip sticks around, we should be able to whiten things a bit even down in the valley. Same goes for the mid and lower hudson valleys. The cold is serious and it's coming south. It all will depend on how the "wave" along the front aligns itself and how well the anafrontal moisture lingers.

chietanen
Yeah it is awesome. And it's coming your way. The mix line is definitely sinking south. Looking at that slug of moisture moving up the Delmarva, it appears that the Litchfield Hills and parts of the Berkshires might get a good bit of snow.
