Juliancolton
Mighty toasty indeed. The usual roadside trees are colorful this weekend, but the woods seem mostly green... maybe like 10% of peak. Pool still open
NYC Weather Lover
Mighty toasty indeed. The usual roadside trees are colorful this weekend, but the woods seem mostly green... maybe like 10% of peak. Pool still open I actually visited the Hudson Valley this weekend (around the Woodstock vicinity), and I had to say the colors were gorgeous. Definitely quite a bit of color in those trees, as I drove up the Thruway and Route 84. Now, I'm back on LI, and as usual, nothing but green! gravitylover
Yessiree! Take a ride up the Taconic this weekend, it should be really good north of Rt 6 especially the high country through Fahnestock and north from there. By the time you get up to Julians area it will be nearly perfect I think.

By the time you get up to Julians area it will be nearly perfect I think. Aye, the color seems to be increasing exponentially. It's a shame the real nice color only lasts a handful of days each year - there are literally hundreds of places in the Catskills and HV alone I'd love to visit at peak foliage, but I'm usually hardpressed to bag more than a few. I guess it wouldn't be as enchanting if it lingered.
Juliancolton
For comparison, I took this picture from the Bear Mountain Bridge on October 18 last year, and it still had several days to go before approaching peak. Haven't been down that way recently, but I suspect we're outpacing last year's color progression by a wide margin.
gravitylover
It's getting good in a hurry. Today was quite a bit better than Sunday. Gonna head out for a ride after dinner tonight so should get to see what the drop rate is like in the woods away from the roads and open spaces. Hopefully for the "downstaters" it's not too significant yet so it holds out for the weekend.

Juliancolton
Bit of a dreary morning... I think I'm at just over a tenth of an inch. Meh. Interesting meso-low over CT producing bands of appreciable rainfall, and continuing to slowly inch westward. Models keep the feature east of the border, but it's still worth keeping an eye on. IrishRob17
Im really rooting for some good rains on Saturday, I'm sure we all are, and I'm hoping that there is a real pattern change that develops now as a result.

I hear ya, I'll give you Saturday (if I could control it LOL). I would have been pissed if it rained last Saturday as I was tailgating and then watching The Irish in Giants Stadium. snywx
You guys beat me to it.. The colors this year are a good 5-7 days ahead of last yr. At this rate we are gonna peak within the next 5 days.

At this rate we are gonna peak within the next 5 days. I was impressed again this morning with how much color we have out there, in my area we are more than 5-7 days ahead based on my records, which indicate at least 10 days ahead. Of course "peak" is an arbitrary thing though. That's a downside of getting rain now, it will increase the leaf drop.
snywx
Has MBY on the line of medium/high color. I would actually move that line 15 miles east since most of the county is experiencing high color right now

gravitylover
Well in a perfect world I'd say Sunday through next week should be peak time here but, tomorrow is supposed to be windy and that might wipe out the half that's already popping. Yeah, I'm thinking it might be a bit of an underwhelming year. Still a nice time of year, regardless.
Animal
Good Day weather fans, current temp 58F. Breezy this morning with around 0.10 inches of rain over night. Looks to be a chilly night and day tomorrow. Expect to be at peak leaf color next weekend. Best.

IrishRob17
Unless the radar explodes sometime soon this will wind up being another 'event' under .25. That's good news for the foliage but bad news for the drought. The drought can bust over the winter though
Juliancolton
Agreed on all counts, though that batch of precip over NJ is looking rather juicy over the past few radar frames. Might be good for several tenths of an inch if it doesn't slide too far east. Incidentally, Chicago reported light snow this morning... it begins! Animal
Good Day weather fans, Sun has finally poked out. temp 60F. Going to get the fire rippin later tonight. Rain has brought down a lot of leaves. Milllion dollar question, do we see the first flakes in the next 4 weeks. First snow last year was around Nov. 10th!.
