Today we hit 62 degrees.

I took another jebwalk in the Delaney Valley.

By now that's the only place you will find any snow in the central and southern mid atlantic.

The strong late spring sun is just devastating the land. We'll be in early drought by late April at this rate. 2014 is shaping up to be one of the all time hottest and driest years for the Eastern Seaboard, with Washington DC squarely in the crosshairs. We won't get any mercy at all. This upcoming summer is going to make the 1930s summer drought and dust bowl look like the Little Ice Age with 90000 inches of snow a month.

The only place you'll find any relief is in Delaney Valley. There is still some snow on that west northwest slope, about an inch and a half, in a 25 foot swath. There is still some snow in the cool pool of fresh water in the low spots. The ground is wet but it is still very much frozen.

The next two days forecast is horrific. More 60s weather, then Wednesday will top out at 78 degrees with possible severe weather, high winds and heavy thundershowers.

Soon all the remaining snow in Delaney Valley will be gone forever and I will be in a world of hurt.

This spring will be like summer and summer will be pure unrelieved HELL in the mid atlantic.

The alaskan ridge will NOT cool us off at all, not this spring, summer or fall.

2014 will be known as the Year of Hell in these parts, especially beginning in April.

From now on, with short periods when we will be at normal, we will be above normal. This is why we have a shot at mid 90s in April.

Today we topped out at 74 degrees with 40 degree dewpoints.

I noticed two small spots of icy snow left on the west northwest slope in Delaney Valley this afternoon. The snow melted its last as a strong spring strengthened its merciless grip on the mid atlantic. The slope is soggy. There is no more snow in the water pool in the low part of the valley.

Tomorrow heavy rains with severe weather will wash the heck out of Delaney Valley. There will be a brief return to refreshing weather but strong spring values will rapidly return to the mid atlantic. Spring is officially here. It will get cool at times but the temps will only skyrocket from here as we embark on an extremely torrid spring and then summer. Ian will be ecstatic as he enjoys his fill of hot weather and plenty of catastrophic severe weather. I saw fresh green grass and a few flowering trees today. The trees know. The verdict is in - Winter is over. Spring is in firm control. Prepare to burn up with absolutely no mercy thru late October. Summer in Washington DC in 2014 will closely resemble summer values in Austin, Texas. The Alaskan ridge is completely exhausted. It wont save our sorry 8sses next fall or winter either. It really needs a rest for the next 30 years. A trough will develop there and it will become semipermanent for three years. This is one reason why spring  and summer will be so damn hot this year then fall will have a very late start - the polar opposite of last fall. In fact Indian summer conditions may persist next fall right into early January 2015, with 70s weather for Christmas Day 2014 into New Years Day 2015.

Totz excited for breezy rainshowers!!1!!!

Need enough rain to soak in the fertilizer, not so much as to wash it all away.  Though I probably should have read "do not re-seed within 3 months of application." before I put it down.....

I've liked birds since I was a kid. My grandfather was a bird caller, which I thought was cool as hell. I grew up in South Jersey, which is part of a pretty big migration flyway, so we always had a lot of cool birds to look out for.

The Osprey arrivals have begun. 2 sightings yesterday (Jug Bay & Riva) And my mother spotted her Osprey this morning ( Still Pond-Eastern Shore)

Yay for more signs of Spring!!
